Do US owners need to purchase additional/supplemental bike insurance when riding into Canada from the States?   I’ve heard that some sort of verification of insurance coverage in Canada is required when crossing the border but it was nuclear as to whether the person meant normal proof of coverage or coverage specifically for Canada.  Taking a trip to Nova Scotia in a couple of weeks and the last thing we need is to be turned around at the border.  Thanks for the help.

Ask your insurance provider for a "yellow card" to be on the safe side. That'll be proof of insurance.

Demo,  We crossed in and out last year on the bike with no problems.  No one asked to see anything other than our passports.  We're planning on going again in two weeks and anticipate no problems.

Then again, maybe their laws have changed in the past twelve months.

As mentioned above...the "yellow card".

Your US insurance IS good in Canada.

Your US insurance card (proof of insurance) is NOT.

Ask your provider for the yellow card. It's free.

You won't need it at the border...only if you get stopped or involved in an accident.

three of us went into Ontario last month, i wasn't aske a thing about insurance, don't know about MP an Nitro, don't think they were asked either.  if you're in dought, talk to your insurance provider, they'll have more knowledge of it from others that have gone.

Thanks for the info guys.  We go into Canada frequently as we're 30 minutes from the border.  Never knew about the yellow card, but, we'll have one tomorrow.
We learn a lot from this board!
Thanks!!

Alright, I went and put my passport into the microwave to zap that IC chip in my passport.  Went to Canada last month, didn’t get questioned about it at all.  Coming back into America, there was even less trouble.  Only thing I had been questioned about was what bought, I said a lot of gas and a lot of food, and I left most the food there!  The guy laughed and passed us through.

I think things go easy if you don’t have any type of a criminal record.  I know of some people that have been held because they’ve got DUI’s and were not let into Canada.

The WA State Chapter, the Vermin Club, crossed into Canada in June to meet up with the BC Chapter for a weekend of fun. The only thing they seemed to by concerned about at the border was how much booze we had. I guess we had enough...they let us in.

Full search...all bags to get back into the States.
