Hi, I'm new to the board and new to the Valk. It's a 98 Standard with only 7,800 miles.

Every bike has it's weak points and am hoping you might give me a heads up on what to look for.

XGUY  the seat on the pre 2000 models were in most opinions not near as comfortable as the stock 2000 and up. You can get a new one from HDL for about 90 bucks or someone on here might have a used one you could try if you find your rearend unhappy with the one you got now. Also several aftermarket seats are available. If it hasn't been done you'll need to change all fluids, brake, clutch,and coolant and check the splines and pinion coupler for lube, Then ride the hell out of it.

With the Valk the only thing you really have to be watching for is gas stations.

Hello and welcome to the club :)
My 98 standard has been real dependable and in my opinion the best overall bike I have ever had.
Oh by the way it has around 84000 miles on it. ;D

Welcome! My 98 has 54,000. Wouldn't hurt to do the
starter button maintenance. I do mine about once a year.

Speaking of starter switch maintenance, if you have extra lights, be sure to get them on a relay. In fact relays should be wired in to the headlight circuits like they are on the I.S. The load on the starter switch
will be reduced, thereby improving the reliability of the switch.

Thanks guys for all the help! You have been very helpful! Lonerbtw had echoed some of my fears. My brother in law I mentioned earlier had trouble with jets on his 5th or 6th cylinder and the stealers burnt him for $800 to clean or replace a jet or two! This was like two years ago and just found out yesterday it's not 100% yet he said he's still putting in Lucus fuel additive! He admitted he brought this problem on his self by letting her sit up too long, which has me wondering how often to put a fuel additive in? I use Chevron Techron on my VTX 1800 about twice a year. I know too much can hurt it, but at the same time i don't want any trouble with all those carbs!!

So how often would you recommend I put it in?
