My wife invited herself to lunch this morning....so as I was leaving the building to get into her car, I discovered that she had also invited herself to an informal meeting that one of the marketing folks was holding with some journalists covering the new Juke (hits the showrooms in October).  Following are a couple photos I snapped with the phone....

Surprisingly cars haven't really interested me much in the last 30 years.  Sure some are definitely more exciting than others, but like many of the folks on this forum, my formative years were the 60's and early 70's.  The Shelby Cobra's, the MOPAR offerings along with the classic Firebird/Camaros from GM coupled with the cool things turn out by the Brits (British Leyland, Jaguar (12 cylinder e-Type), MG, etc.) made that era exciting from an automobile standpoint.  I sort of fell asleep after about 1980, and mostly just look at vehicles as a necessity to get where I'm going

I'm not sure why I like this car....I haven't even driven it yet (even though I think I will get a chance later this week).  Much like Evan (Oss), I did notice the similarity of the slope of the roof to that of the French Citroen and thought that was pretty cool.  At first I thought the huge headlights were hideous...until they grew on me...however I think a lot of my fascination has to do with the engineering.

AWD, 188 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque from the Direct injected 1.6L turbo...following is a video describing the engine:

I got to drive the Juke today.  I was expecting power and acceleration from the turbocharged, direct injected 1.6L engine.....I was not disappointed.  The only thing I am unsure about is the fuel economy.  Unofficially I am hearing that it will average around 29 mpg....however the average mpg that the instrumentation showed was less than that.  The car had less than 150 miles on it when I drove it, and I am guessing that the other employees who test drove it did much like myself....constantly engaged the turbo to see what kind of acceleration it would deliver.

I still have a slight grin on my face as I write this!

Jim, what's the curb weight of the Juke? The pics seem to indicate a quite narrow vehicle, especially the one of the windshield area.  I drive a Titan Crewcab 4x4 now and while I don't imagine the Juke could pull my equipment trailer, I could sure use some of that 29mpg.

Yeah, my exact thoughts too.

I always say that us from the 60-70s era need to feel selfish cause not only did we have the best looking cars but best clothes and music too!!  (bell bottoms, hiphuggers, halter tops, etc... -- rock and roll, CCR, Three Dog Night, etc...)  Ahhh, memories.

The poor generation now is just grabbing for straws and trying to make something out of nothing!!

Personally this Juke is not my cup of tea but you know, to each his/her own.

Hey!!

My '99 Nissan Sentra has a 1.6 liter in it and it gets 32mpg.

I wonder if this Direct injected, turbo thing would fit??  At 180K miles it's about due, hmmm!!

John I looked it up and it is being reported as 2830 (unladen weight).  Just like yourself, I drive a larger vehicle (Pathfinder), however I did not find the Juke to be "narrow" or cramped in the least (I think the photo you were referring might be a bit deceptive...I'm not a very good photographer).  I agree that it would not haul the equipment trailer that your Titan hardly knows is back there.  The Juke is what the marketing folks call a "Compact Crossover" and proably competes with the Honda Element, Scion, Toyota Matrix, etc.
