Saturday the wife and I took a ride to our favorite restaurant. after we finished I must have forgot to tighten the lid on my interstate saddlebag and about two blocks down the road the lid blew off. It just so happened that several weeks ago I got impatient with the cord that holds the lid from falling completely off but also keeps the lid from opening easily. I only removed the cord on one bag. Guess which one. I also had the chrome rails on top. My wife blamed herself for some reason. I didn't correct her. Expensive mistake.

Ouch - I had a similar mistake on an 1100 goldwing a few years back and I was thrilled when I found the IS had the lid retainers built in.

Good luck with finding a replacement.

Harley Touring Lids can't blow off and are very easy to use and much cheaper

than a Valk Saddlebag.

Made of Nylon and very tough.

It's an Idea.

Harley has the best saddlebag system on Earth.

Two Zeus fittings and there off and ready to clean.

The Valk probably has the worst, but has the best motor.

I own both types so i am not just whistling Dixie.

Had the identical thing happen to me.  Hit a big bump, and the thing launched off the bike and down the side of the road. Scraped up the chrome lid rack pretty good, and some paint and plastic from the edges.  Took it to a buddy who is a bump shop painter/wizard and he cleaned it up better than I thought possible.  It still is damaged, but you have to get right up on it to see.  Never have reinstalled the cable keepers on those lids, but I do check they are latched every time now.

Al,

I've been doing a lot of thinking about some type of quick release for the Valk. The stuff that is out there is not much help over standard. Oh well, nothing is perfect. Sad

The bad thing was i was on a divided road(NASA Rd 1 in houston) and at least 10 cars had killed it by the time I got to it.

Curious...expensive because you lost the lid, or because you let the wife take the blame?
