What is involved with using a CB radio on the Interstate. I see the controls but that is all. I haven't used a CB since the 80's but somebody was asking and I just don't know. Is the CB radio itself already installed and I just don't know it? It must hook up with the intercom system (which I also don't use Embarrassed)

Please pardon my ignorance about my motorcycle.

On the Interstate the controls may be there but the am/fm radio may or may not be installed.  The am/fm radio (mounted under the seat on top of battery) is the "heart of the system".  Without the am/fm radio the intercom won't work and the cb (seperate unit) will not work.  If the am/fm radio is installed the OEM cb interfaces through it.  The OEM cb is normally mounted under the trunk but sometimes relocated under the seat  behind the battery.

Most of the buttons on the control unit are labelled: push to talk channel and squelch.  Use the mode control to select radio/cb/aux whicever you need to use.  If you can't select cb (as indicated on the lcd dash display) it probably isn't installed.

To correct some info:

The IS comes with the am/fm radio standard.  It is located under the seat.  The CB is optional, but ties into the radio system.  The cb itself mounts under the trunk with a bracket, and adds a LH antenna to the trunk.  It uses the controls on the radio controller.

It works very well.

Turn it on, and listen.  Push the talk switch down with your left forfinger to transmit.  Works great.  I have a complete, new in box, Honda OEm system with CB, mounts, antenna, and antenna mounts for sale.  PM me if interested.

Although the I/S comes standard with the am/fm radio it may have been removed.  My CB is mounted under the seat behind the battery using a shared R/H antenna.

Where can the CB be purchased and what is the cost of the complete CB, and how hard is it to install?

Look above a few posts and send MP a message. He has a complete Hondaline (OEM) cb system available. They are VERY difficult to find as a complete set. The cb units are 'somewhat' available. An original cb unit mounting system is 'difficult' to find. An original cb antenna is 'difficult' to find and the original unmolested/unaltered/new/clean/no rust cb antenna mount is nearly impossible to find. MP is a wonderful man and a true asset to the Valkyrie community. Deal with him in complete confidence.

All the best,

The oem cb is mounted under the trunk, it has a separate antenna.  If it has only one antenna on the right sight, it probly don't have a cb.  All the operations are explained in the owner's manual.  If you don't  have a manual it is available at Honda, or on the internet.  Hoser

Doc x - you may still be able to get an OEM through Honda. A complete CB/bracket/antenna will likely run around a grand. Big Mike at www.Valkyrie lingandmore.com has after-market CBs he has configured for the IS for around $500

Neither the cb antenna or the cb mount or the cb kit itself are available from Honda.  Last used set on ebay went for $855.  What I am asking for a brand new set.
