popping in driveline?

I've just got a popping in my driveline,under power or backing off too! Any ideas?

Sounds like splines or drive shaft/pinion cup about to go.

You can hear it and you think it's coming from the drive line:

You can't feel anything?

I think you ought to feel it,,, like it's jumping a tooth on a chain sprocket, something like that!!!

If it turns out to be the u-joint, mine didn't make any noises until immediately before it came apart.  However, I felt it failing for some time - first as slop or lash as load was applied or relieved from the drive line that I incorrectly attributed to the dampers in the rear wheel.

Pretty easy to inspect the u-joint.

Remove the rear brake pedal assembly and pull back the rubber boot!

I blew a pinion cup and driveshaft and it never made a noise until it let go. I replaced everything from output shaft of engine to final drive.

Ditto. I was on a trip (a holiday wkend) ...noise one day and she came apart the next.
