I just received this email from a high school classmate of mine that happens to be Clint's cousin.  I will see what else I can find out, but I thought I would pass this along.

"Clint was in an accident last night. He has seven broken ribs, a cracked clavicle, punctured lung and might have pnemonia. My sister Linda talked to him on the phone but said he was pretty out of it, as you can imagine. He is in intensive care."

I just spoke with him on the telephone, and he is in alot of pain.  Please keep Clint in your prayers and I will keep you updated on his progress.

Jeez, I thought I was reading Lori's post of his accident a few months ago.

Damn, someone send him a bell for his bike and see if that helps.

Bike's can be replaced, people like Clint can't, so heal fast correctly and come out a swingin.

Prayers and thoughts from Iowa as we speak.

I just got through talking with Clint. He's at Tacoma General Hospital - ICU.  Plenty of pain (and meds).

He's some relatives in the area who are going to look after the bike and things, but I'll check again with him tomorrow to be sure.

He was about 2 miles south of Eatonville, WA, heading south, when he saw a deer. Slowed down, thought he'd have plenty of room and the next thing he knew was that he was down.  Thought it might have been a second deer.

He's really banged up, with broken ribs, etc. and is in ICU at Tacoma General.  I'll be heading over tomorrow late morning or early afternoon to see him and find out what I can do to help.

This is Clint's 2nd bad accident in about six months - there are some pictures from his earlier accident above in this thread.  He thinks his riding days may be over.~

Stude31 was good enough to email me with the advisory and call for help.

I had to make a few calls to get a number, but was able to connect with jj_WA to advise him.  As it turns out, he'd gotten the news and was talking to Clint on the phone while I was trying to call him, and has apparently already been in contact with you Lori?

In any case... jj_WA advised that Clint has some family in the area who are helping with squaring the bike away, and that Clint is able to talk on the phone.  He's in Tacoma General.  I see now that I missed a call from you (Lori).  Now that I'm catching up on verifying the news is where it needed to go, I'm letting folks know what I've learned.  Clint was near Eatonville, WA when it happened (so I'm told).

If I learned anything from my "deer incident," it's that where there is one deer, there's always another.
Like Clint, I had "plenty of room," 'til another slammed into my front end.

Prayers for Clint.  Heal quickly.

I'm at the hospital now.  Using iPod touch so excuse typos.  They put in a breathing tube while I was on my way over.  Right now I'm waiting to see him; the nurses are performing another procedure on him.  Not sure what as Hippa rules won't let them tell me.

I've seen the other thread & if my battery holds out will ensure he at least hears everyone's best wishes.

More as I get it.

Well, that was a wasted trip.  After in and out for over an hour and a half, a nurse came out and asked me if I knew the password.  Evidentially, Clint's brother came in this morning before I called and left a password for visitors.  None of the times I called before going over did they ask or tell me of a password.  So, I didn't get to see Clint.

What I do know is that they inserted a breathing tube earlier this morning. He was having a tough time breathing while we talked last night on the phone.

There were, evidentially, two other procedures the nurses/doctors performed on him in the room this afternoon. I do not know what they are, nor could the nurse I spoke with tell me.

Along with a mylar balloon and get well card, I left my biz card with the nurse and asked she have the brother call me. Hopefully he will.

Updates as I have them.

Just got back from visiting Clint.  He has an air tube to help him breath and is medicated to give him a chance to rest and recover.  They pull him out of it in the mornings to see how is doing. Otherwise he's pretty much oblivious to what's going on.

The injuries are pretty serious, especially when compared to the accident earlier this year.  The rough estimate (no promises from the medical staff) is that he'll be in ICU another 3-4 days.  The resident and nurse said he has a very long way to go as among his injuries a number of ribs were broken and floating, not supporting his chest.  Then there's always the road rash.  Only visible is a patch on his chin, but the nurse said there's some pretty extensive road rash.

I have not had a chance to talk with any relatives, but understand from when I spoke with Clint Friday night that they're taking care of his bike and belongings.  If anyone finds out anything different, please let me know.

He needs your prayers and kind thoughts.  No cards have arrived yet, but I figure it's because of the weekend.

I'll get back over there as soon as I can.

Update: Sept 1, 2010

I got over to the hospital again this evening.  Clint is still in ICU, all hooked up and kept under sedation.  His step-son, Chad, has been at the hospital since Sunday, cat napping in the room.  I boosted Chad out for dinner this evening and we spent a couple of hours talking about Clint, Chad and Chad's family.

They're still taking things day by day, but it appears Clint is slowly starting to recover.  There is still a very long way to go, but it's brighter than this past weekend.

Chad said there are a whole bunch of cards from everyone in the VRCC and VOAi that have been delivered.  The nursing staff are pretty impressed to know that Clint has friends from all over.

I'll try to get back over there every other day or so to check on things. Chad has my phone # and I told him to not hesitate to call.  We're all here for him and Clint.  If I find he/they need anything I'll share with the board to see what we can collectively do.
This will be posted on both the VRCC and VOAi boards.

Sept 4 update:

Talked to Clint on the phone this morning. He sounds real tired and admits he's pretty broken up.  They took the breathing tube and a few other things out/off of him yesterday.  He may be moved out of ICU as early as tomorrow.  Talked to his step-son - both he and Clint sound much better and rested - what a son, staying in the room with Clint only leaving for short periods of time. It's a hell of a testimony for both of them.

I decided to not go today as Clint sounded real tired and I don't want him to over do it right now.  I'll try to get over tomorrow.  I'm excited and relieved that he sounds so good on the phone.

JJ

You are a true brother !   I do not recall if we met when I was out there and KC took me to the Vermin breakfast.  I do know I recognize you from the Voai also.  Next time I am out in Seattle I will try to look you up if I can.

What you do visiting Clint is a real Mitzvah and it is appreciated more than you can realize.

Would you post Clint's room number if you hear that he has been moved out of ICU so he keeps getting the ecards so many are sending to him?

Thanks again for taking the time from your busy life to look in on Clint.

JJ typing for Clint here.

Clint's been moved off of the ICU and into a private room.  For cards, send to room 507.

He was sitting in a chair when I came in, and got into bed to rest a bit after yakking for a while.  He's eating lunch now and watch golf (of all the gawd awful things to watch) on the tv.   Grin Grin

He has a really spiffy pair of reading glasses a friend brought over.  He's a little shy about it, but we're trying to get a picture of them to post.

He really is looking vastly better than the other day - but then again, almost anything would look better than he did last week.

He's been reading the messages and has really been taken by the outpouring of goodwill.  He'll post some responses when he has more strength.

I'll let him post later.  I'm glad to see he's doing as well as he is.
