New timing belts-missed a tooth...

I installed new timing belts today on my Tourer. Also Interstate ICM and switched my 6 degree trigger wheel back to stock. I thought I had everything checked and double-checked, but it just didn't run right-poor idling and not the normal throttle response. No valve clatter or popping. I thought (hoped) I might have got a bad ICM, swapped back the stock unit, same problem. Checked the belts, sure enough I was off one tooth on the right side. Was able to loosen the tensioner and move the belt, everything sounds and runs great now. Hopefully I did not damage any valves, but will do a compression check when I get a chance.

One tooth off shouldn't be a problem.

one tooth off..you did'nt hurt a thing..i worked on a valk that the guy rode it to my house from canada..his right cam was 3 teeth off and his turned out to be fine..how he rode it that far with as bad as it was running was beyond me..

These are not clearance engines so its pretty easy to 'warp' a valve.. You say its running fine, thats good to hear, but , a compression test will tell for sure if everything is OK..

One tooth off will not hurt it...............valves dont warp.  If they hit a piston thy bend, but thats not going to happen one tooth off

Geeeezzzz,, why do you think I put those little funny looking thingys [ ' warped ' ] before and after warped???  Isn't something 'warped ' usually bent??  I know a few folks have ' bent ' valves by installing belts incorrectly, but, I don't know how many  ' tooth's ' they were off..  ???
