2014 Valkyrie 1800

Seminole, Florida

« on: August 28, 2010, 03:46:08 PM »

I switched from Amsoil (Motorcycle) oil 10-40 full synthetic and tried the Rottela last oil change, didn't care for it, now I'm reluctantly trying the Mobil-1 15-50 full synthetic. I was reluctant do to the fact I could not read anywhere that it was safe with wet clutch applications. My buddies got two Valkyries, one with 100k and the other with 50k on the clock and that's all he's ever run in them. I'm trying it. I just can't pay for the Amsoil anymore. I can change the oil in my SUV and truck for less than one Amsoil oil change. Shocked

Mobil 1 15-50 synthetic has been safe to use in my 99 tourer for eight years and 75000 miles, changed at 8000 mile intervals.  There, now you've read it, now go for it.  Kidding aside, I have never heard of anyone having trouble that can be blamed on that oil.  JMHO.

I talked to a member who has ties to the oil industry.
He uses Valvoline Durablend 10W-40. (a blend)
I used it in my last bike and now have it in the new one. Very pleased

Doug, doesn't Mobil1 make more than one 15w50 full syn? When I had my Rocket 3 I bought some Mobil1 15W50 4T from the Triumph dealer in Daytona. Went to WallyWorld later & saw Mobil1 15W50 w/o the 4T designation for A LOT less. The Triumph shop said the 4T was only available from them. That was 3 years ago though. HMMMM.
I recently switched my Valk {at 100K} to the Mobil1 10w40 4T & I am VERY happy with it. Less noise {trans & valvetrain} with better shifting to boot. It is a bit pricey, $9.50 a quart at AutoZone but nothing is too good for my baby! It will be going into Kim's bike too at the next change. cooldude

Tundra, I only used Amzoil 10-40 full syn motorcycle specific in my bikes, and still think it's the best oil bar none, but the price just got too stupidly high.  I've been with T6 Shell Rotella ever since.  It sure seems watery coming out of the jug, but the bikes run great with it in all temps and I've now run multiple 5-6K mile stints with it in two ISs.  $20 instead of $50 per oil change (+/-).
