The screw on the inside of the faring turns and will not back out. How do I get the screw out without trashing the inside faring cover. I am replacing the windshield. It is the top outer screw. Not the one behind the clutch reservoir  Six Pack, help!

The brass inserts in the fairing will turn with the screw. The only way to remove them is to carefully pull on the cover as you turn the screw. What you are trying to do is pull the insert from the fairing. After you get it out pliers on the insert to remove from the screw. Clean the insert and the hole that it came out of, and glue the insert back in. Don't get glue on the threded portion of the insert. Any good epoxy will hold it. When you put the screws in, make sure to use anti-seize on the screw threads to prevent it happening again. Hope this helps. Pretty common problem for the Intersate fairing. as many have posted with the same problem. Me too. :cooldude:

Also, they do not need to be tightened very hard.

A little tip:

On my IS the fairing panels were loose (mounting holes worn) and the panels made all kinds of racket going over bumps.  I got some small rubber grommets, just big enough to fit the shoulder portion of the panel screw, and cut the reduced diameter portion of the grommet off with a razor blade, this leaves 2 rubber washers that you can put on the screws to keep the panels from making noise.  If you have this issue try it, you might like it!

I found it was easy to cut the grommets by sliding them onto a bolt and then turn the bolt as you slice off the ends of the grommet with the razor blade.

Similar to what Skinhead did, I used small o-rings on the outside of the screws that barely fit over the "shoulder" on the screw.  This way, you don't have to tighten the snot out of them and the rubber holds them tight.  Also, the anti-sieze is important to keep the screws from sticking in the brass sockets.
