My wife said buy whatever I want for my birthday ( within reason). I was looking at chrome velocity stacks. Has anyone put them on an Interstate? I`m not sure they will fit because of the radiator pods. Thanks in advance for any information you may offer.

I have them on my Standard, but there is some information on BigBF's site on I/S stacks:

http://bigbf.com/bigbf_shop/custom_i-s_pod_v-stacks/pages/P0005749.htm

and, here is the install itself:

http://bigbf.com/bigbf_shop/how-to_install_v-stacks/

Don't forget to buy the screens and tank spacer from BigBF!

Purple Haze, Thanks, that`s exactly what I wanted to know! Next question is, does anyone know how to design the red and amber led lights that you put into the stacks as seen on you tube? "Velocity stacks LED flame pods"

I can't pull up U-tube at work, but you'll just need to get 6- 4 Led pod shaped llights , drill a hole small enough to get the wires thru on the tank side of the stacks and run back under tank to switch, most I've seen use a sink strainer cover or fine mesh to cover the lights.

Mine are the small engine air filters.

Hi Cattman, You LED work is tremendous!  cooldude Will you share some additional detail about your air filters? I don't know where to begin looking. Any thing else you can share such as where you placed your led's and how many etc. I'd love to begin a project like this but I'd sure like to avoid a false start or two at getting the right look.

I just installed Pods on my Tourer with V-Stacks already in place. I found the tolerances different from left to right. On both sides I needed to trim [open up] the black ABS on the inside vertical edge of the louvered vents, as BigBF shows on his sight. But I wasn't willing to start bending mounting brackets to jostle them on or to stress & pitch the pods that way. As a side note, I did not have to cut or modify the Kuryakyn spark plug valences!

So, on the right v-stack I filed off about 3/4" of the #1 flared lip, but on the left I had to go further and Dremel a "V" into, the #2 cylinder, stack. Neither stack modification is very visible and there are no undue stresses on the fixed pods.

Since V-Stackes are hard to find/replace some may not prefer the risk of cutting into them.

I can post a pick of the stack mods if you need.

Hey, I`m the OP and I`m bummin, I ordered the V-stacks from Direct line parts the same day I posted my question. I was told they were back ordered for several months. I couldn`t pin them down as to when they would have them to ship. Looks like they may be my birthday gift for next year!  Cry  PS Anyone have a set on the shelf they want to sell?

Supposedly,,,,, and I say this with great great doubt,,,, HDL should have them in stock by the end of April.

We'll see.  coolsmiley

============================

And I thought I also read some where that the Velocity Stacks with the Interstate Tank require a bit more room. Correct me if I'm wrong.  Undecided

rmrc51  I sure hope you are correct on the backorder time frame. That is more optimistic then what I was told. HDL told me they needed to order 500 units before the manufacturer would make them, and after they were made they needed to go to a chroming factory. I asked are we looking at a month or two and the reply was maybe longer. Like I said before, they would not be pinned down on a date for shipping. You are correct, I will need to do some hand crafting to make them fit. I really like the way they look on the Valk so I will give it my best shot.

Moto,

When did HDL tell you this? The information that I posted I also got from HDL around two weeks ago. It wouldn't surprise me if we never see those stacks! There seems to be a few Valkyrie accessories that have unfortunately stopped being offered. Looks like the Velocity Stacks are the next victim.  Undecided

Well,,, your information is clearly more recent then mine. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for those stacks. As you may have figured, I also have a set on order with HDL. At this point, I'm basically writing them off. If I should get them in the future, it'll be an unexpected surprise.  Undecided

There are six v-stacks on ebay. They appear to be machined but not chromed, though. This is the link. Not cheap but it's your birthday Motorider!

YIKES!!!   Shocked

You were right when you said expensive. And that's a starting bid no less. It'll be interesting to see what they actually go for. That's a bit too rich for my blood!! Smiley But thanks for the heads up!  cooldude

Bons, Thanks for the post, I also saw them on E-bay. If they were already chromed I would be bidding. However, they are too much money for me as they are. Looks like very good craftsmanship, but if I`m going to buy, I want a finished product.
P.S, RMRC51 One of us should call HDL and ask if the order for 500 units to be manufactured has been placed yet. I hate to nag them but it would be nice to know if the wheels of progress are even turning. I was hoping someone with connections to HDL would see this thread and enlighten us. Roll Eyes

Moto,

I'll call HDL this week and post what they say. More than likely, I expect them to tell me that there's a new date even further out or they have no idea at present. I went the same route with them when I tried to buy the chromed bottom radiator hose that was discontinued. They kept advertising it on their web site even though it wasn't available any more. You have to call to find out these things. Not a great way to run a business.  Sad coolsmiley

Bons got the third set that I had squirreled away for the wifes trike. Be cool if HDL gets some more made. I seriously doubt it. If not I think those were the last sets on the planet lol. Glad I could hook ya up that is what this forum is all about. I travel the country with my work and always bring a Valk. If'n I can get back to work, sigh, maybe we can share some wind. Anyways the pkg's were shipped today and enroute. cooldude

Thanks again Don! Happy birthday Motorider!

Not being one to leave good enough alone, I ordered some red and amber self-flashing led's that I'll mount at the bottom of the v-stacks (yes, as seen on YouTube) and top the v-stacks with screens. The LED's flash independently at a rate of 1.5 flashes per second. They're super-brights so they'll likely be visible in daylight somewhat - we'll see. I'll experiment with the correct number of LED's in each v-stack and the tilt of the LED's so they bounce their light off the sides of the chrome bores of the v-stacks. The LED's are only 75 cents each so it should be cheap fun.

BONS, Great minds think alike. I also want to do the Led flashing light V-stacks. I had everything I needed to make it happen except the V-stacks. I will start working on this project as soon as the V-stacks arrive. My goal is to show them off at the Johnstown PA. motorcycle rally ( Thunder in the valley). We always go to the park Saturday evening for motorcycle games. GOOD TIMES!

Motorider, BonS.

Do you have the spacer that will be needed for under the front of the gas tank for the proper clearance once the stacks are installed?

Bill from BigBf said he should have more made by late next week. I had already had one on order with him along with the screens.

========================

P.S. I had called HDL to cancel my order after buying Rattlers set. They told me that at this point, they had no idea when the Velocity Stacks would be available of even if they were going to get them again.

I have had the V-stacks on backorder at HDL for some time. I received a shipment notification from them today so they must be in stock now.

I ordered Vstacks from HDL on 5/15.  By 5/18 I received an invoice for my bearings that showed the Vstacks on back order.  After not hearing anything from them for two weeks, I called and they told me that the stacks would ship today.

Now I am wondering if I got snowed....  We'll see.  My last order they messed up twice with the wrong parts.  Is anyone else seeing a real decline in HDL services?

Yea, That`s all they do is look COOL. My installation came out GREAT. flashing lights fool even long time riders that think they are flashing with the spark plugs. I used crumb catchers from ACE hardware to slide down the inside of the V-stacks to cover the bulbs. They are made out of stainless steel. I ground down the outside edge of the crumb catchers and cut a notch in them to clear the LED wires, Slid them in and volla, done deal. cooldude

I suck at posting pictures, I grew up with the Kodak Brownie Instamatic camera. I will take a stab at it this weekend. I have sent one or two pictures to private e-mail addresses, but I don`t have the know how to post on the forum. If I am successful at sending pictures to you, feel free to post them on the forum.
