I've had many over the years, and quite a few were memorable...  Starling upside the head (had just enough time to turn my head) feathers sticking outta my chin strap after that...  Come over a small rise in the road at dusk to find three deer standing in the road (good thing I had 'air horns'...  Deer poop all over the road  Grin )...

The highest 'pucker factor' came from a spare tire that dropped out from under a pickup truck, in front of me, on the freeway one evening...  Lotsa traffic, saw it drop, it slid down the road like a hockey puck until it caught an edge...  Lemme tell ya, a tire will bounce with all the predictability of a football when moving 65mph...  I managed to get around and passed it, but judging by the headlights in my mirrors, the cages behind me were not so lucky...

Just when the highway straightened out for a mile
And I was thinkin' I'd just cruise for a while
A fork in the road brought a new episode
Don't you know...

Conform, go crazy, or ride a motorcycle...

Several years ago I was driving my f-250 on interstate 285 in Atlanta, doing about 75mph and I see this small pickup in front of me hit something on the road, watch it raise up from the road and the next thing I know, I have a softball size hole in my windshield. I hear some banging noise behind me and decide to pull over. When I opened my back door, out fell an 18in piece of 1/2 in angle iron. I'm covered with glass and look around for any holes in my body and found a small cut on the top of my left shoulder. My angel was riding with me that day. Now, to make it bike related, my first thought was, I'm glad I wasn't on my Valk.

Years ago when I was riding my blue and cream '98' Valk I had two weeks to kill in between job changes (I planned that) I was headed for Colorado from Arizona. I had just passed the Little Painted Desert and was cruising about 75 or 80 on the indian reservation, very desolate area. I came around an up hill curve and there was a flock of sheep in the road. I hit the brakes hard and layed on the Big BF Quad Horns. The sheep started to part as I went up in between them. Never had time to stop, surprised and happy they got out of the way.

I know that stretch.

I was riding my FJR a couple of months ago going around a curve about 65 looking through the curve.  Suddenly I ran up on something with the front tire, then slid off, moving the tire about 4" to left.  At that speed, I couldn't look behind me to see what it was, but I believe that it was a box turtle.  The front tire must have squirted it off the road since my rear tire didn't hit it.

I had just pulled out of my driveway, buzzed the ole Valk up to 60 or 65mph (Highway Patrol estimate) and crested the 1st hill. 4door buick regal stopped in the road. Driver said she was driving 20mph because she was afraid of deer. She is a well known local and has never gone that fast ! 4 to 12 mph is her limit (GPS indicated while following in a 55 mph zone) I seen her once do 27 in a 70,damn rebel speeder!
