I have been working to get a new chrome rim for 10 months. I was told at the local Honda shop as long as I have a front wheel off any year except a 97 Valk. that they were all the same . Chrome Pro ordered a new rim for a 2000 Valk. Interstate and then they chrome plated it . Sent it to me and it wont work on my Interstate . The center hub is not as wide but the over all rim is wider screwing up brak calipers . Can any one tell me whats going on . I need some one who knows . I am in the hole 800.00 thinking a Honda dealer would know. rjreeves@charter.net .Yes the bearing are the same dia. but don't go down in the rim as far as the rim that on the bike. 931-247-4502 I need a chrome rim that will fit my Interstate Trike.

Lets see the bearing is not seating all the way correct ? If so this would cause a problem with the spacers the rims are all the same on all Valks except the 97 which only had smaller bearings thats it same rim other than that something is not allowing the forks to come together for the brake clearance.

Everytime I tried to install a front wheel after a honda shop installed the bearings they were not seated all the way in. Also the only difference with a '97 front wheel is the OUTER dimension of the bearings is smaller. They will still mount up to any year Valkyrie because the inner race is the same and uses the same axle. If its not the bearings causing a problem, its probably your assembly procedure. If you dont have the axle all the way in the left fork you will end up with the left side brake disk mounting bolts rubbing the left caliper

Should fit. I have interchanged std and IS rims. As stated, be SURE the bearings are seated, and procedure is correct. Also, correct that even if you got a 97, it would fit. The outer race is smaller, but the inner is the same. I put late model front on my 97, bigger bearings fit perfect.
Something is not correct, the wheel WILL fit.

What exactly does "screwing up brake calipers" mean? Do you mean the rotor rivets are hitting the caliper? If that's the case, you can center the rotors in the calipers by tapping the axle in a little further before tightening everything down. -RP

If you take and messure the rims, the new rim is over 1/4 inch wider where the disk bolt on . I did a lot of research on this before ordering a new rim so I knew about the 97 difference . We ordered the rim for a 2000 Interstate. Hell I give up . If any one has had a problem like this call and talk to Terry at the Bike shop where there doing the work . WE NEED HELP ALL YOU EXPERTS 931-455-0108

Chrome plating can alter the recess dimensions where the bearings fit making it very difficult to install the bearing fully!
Most important is that you have a correct internal spacer installed for that wheel.
A threaded rod with correct end assemblies will pull those bearing in to their fullest extent without doing any damage to the bearing themselves. This is a very real possibility - the damage to the bearings!
It's critically important that you know what you are doing. You've done the research to insure you have a correct wheel. It just appears that that is where you stopped!

I have it at a shop thats been in busness 40 yrs. There honda mech. One of the men there restores 250,ooo.00 cars . Bottom line is when you mesure the rim it wider. How does that make it the right rim . I thought I might find some one on here that has run into this . The 2 rims off the bike on a binch are not the same with when you messure them . The rim looks like a Valkyrie rim , just wider.Call them they would be glad for the help. I would pay to resolve this problem ....

Could be they chromed the face that the brake disks mount to thereby increasing the distance between rotors. Ive seen this happen with powder coated wheels too

What is the difference between the two wheels? I mena how much are you talking about?
Measure through the bore with straight edges. Get some positive measurements.
i don't think any chrome plating will cause the overall width of the wheel to change so much as to preclude using the wheel.
Your Honda guy should be great help in this. Why hasn't he found out the answer seeing he is rated so highly?
Are you sure what you have now is the correct front end and not a 1997?

The inside spacer is more than 4 mm to short to butt up against the inside of the bearings. The bearings fit , but the outside lip is 1/2 the dia. of the Valkyrie rim . Been at the Honda dealer and on the tech. line with Honda and we have found out its a VTX RIM . To look at it it looks like a Valkyrie rim .Gold wing rims you can look at and tell the difference. Thanks for all the inputs . Never owned a VTX so never knew they made a rim that looks like a Valkyrie. Sending it back to CHROME PRO'S IN TX. Hope I get all my money back seeing how they ordered it . Been waiting since nov. for a rim and they had my money since june 2. They even charged me 10.00 for using my card plus shipping after haveing my money for 6 months. Thanks again . This is my forth Valkyrie . My last Interstate trike I put 307k miles on it and its still going strong. When it gets winter I will take my rim to Advance Platting and have it done . Been doing busness with them for yrs. The bolt pattern on the disk line up and all , just out about 6mm more than Valk. rim . Just to look at it you can't tell. Thanks again.

Glad to know you got it figured out. As we were all telling you, ALL the Valkyrie rims will fit, EVEN the 97's. MP

Some 97 Valkyries hav different bearings. I have one of them hanging in the garage. They are not all the same , even though honda's fich say they are. Can't believe some of Honda's fich. The internal spacer is the same on all Valkyries...

Yes, the 97's have different bearings, but they still work on the newer bikes. The axle and set up is the same. Several of us here have said that. I have done it on my bikes. Right now I have a 01 wheel on the front of my 97. IT WORKS! MP
