GOT CURVES??

VRCCDS0184

« on: August 31, 2010, 03:17:05 PM »

Is anyone interested in joining a few Missouri riders for a Fall Color Ride, With a stop at Alley Spring? It will be on Saturday October 16th. We will be leaving Potosi Missouri at 9am. It will be just over a 200 mile loop. Great twisties and sweepers. It should be Peak Fall Color the second week of October.

http://www.mapquest.com/mq/10-3j9asV_xTfdwd_kB

We will be leaving from the BP station at the junction of Hwy 21 and Hwy 8. There is a Super 8 motel right next to the station. The phone is 573-438-8888. Rooms for two adults with a king bed start at $58.00. There is also capming at  Washington State park is located approx. 15 miles north on Hwy 21, left on State Hwy 104, address is 13041 State Hwy 104, DeSoto Mo. 63020 The Ph# is 636-586-0322.

If we get enough interest we can work on a discounted rate.

Come see the beauty the Ozark Mountains have to offer

http://www.nps.gov/archive/ozar/springs.html

Alley Spring Mill
Alley Spring is located at the foot of a picturesque limestone bluff. The beautiful red Alley Mill is located on its bank, utilizing its perennial flow of water to operate its turbine powered flour mills. The spring has an average daily flow of 81 million gallons of water. During most times the water is a placid azure blue, gently welling up from below, but after a storm has swelled the underground conduits feeding the spring, it can gush forth in angry swells and splashes of brown

I spoke to a park ranger at Washington St. Park today,as of 12:30pm 8/31/10 they had a one bedroom cabin available that actually sleeps 6 persons ,two double beds in the bedroom ,and  pull out couch. priced at $90.00 per night also available were two, 2 bedroom cabins that also sleep six persons for $110.00 per night. These cabins don't remain empty long. If there was a close knit group wanting to attend the ride this could be the way to go.
We have several nice wineries near by.
                   http://www.missouriwinecountry.com/southeast/
 Several beautiful parks ,
                  http://www.missouri-vacations.com/johnson's-shutins-state-park/

Of course the big city of St.Louis is near and has lots to offer.  If any one wanted to come a day early or stay a day longer I would like to offer my services as a tour guide. Anyone thinking they may be interested in this let me know. I'll be glad to take a little vac. time.

I plan to be there although after I replied to you PM I remembered Sunday the 17th is my Anniversary. I don't think I've been to Alley Springs since I was a kid. Rode from Eminence to Salem during the weekend of the 4th of July and that is a great road for riding course any road in the Ozarks is great. Armyvalker if your going maybe we can meet and ride to Postosi together.

Sounds like a plan, I need to do some research I think there is another Valk around we did not know about. That route will be a great test for the Goodyear TT.

This looks like fun, I am going to try to make it.  Unfortunately my job can mess up my plans in a hurry unless I schedule vacation the day before, which means I probably won't know for sure until the day before.

Will be closing on our new to us home on Oct 15th. Jenny and I fugure this ride would be great way to celebrate. We are planning on attending the ride - Chip, if you like we can hook up in the morning and ride on down to the BP Station together. Will probably get a room at super 8 also. Looking forward to meeting all of you on this ride.

Sounds good Mark, its only about 35 miles to my home from the BP station, so I'll be returning home for the night . Unless that is this becomes a late night party after the ride, which I'm usually up for ,I too will choose a room at the Super 8 , over a night in the slammer. I'm ready for this ride, these are some good roads many in this area are banked for the local mining company trucks. cooldude Fall peak color is forcasted for the weekend before, so color should still be great. Glad you are going to make it.

Wanted to bump this to the top. Met another Valk rider and his wife today at the homecoming Rally in Buckhorn Mo. Told him about this ride and he seemed interested in joining us. Hopefully he can find this thread. Also ran into Sharkey at the same Rally and had a good visit with him.

Just got home from the Homecoming Rally. It was a pleasant surprise to run into MoLee. He sounds like he is ready for this fall ride.
The folks MoLee mentioned were camped right next to us and I also invited them on the ride. Their Interstate took first place in the bike show in the Touring Class. The old girl still has it,and in a sea of Harley riders no less.

Yes there is plenty of those. This is a nice rally.

Perfect camping weather. It was rather small compared to the spring rally. There was only about 1000 people there, vs 3000 in the spring.
Ill have to mail you a CD with all the photos. My friend Joe is shamless with a camera, and the girls seem to love him.

Glad you got to meet them, guess its a small world after all. I was impressed with the rally, it is a shame I never attended one before. I'm going to work on the Spyder group to attend next year to at least one of them.

I rode the loop today. I had in about 220 miles. It took right at 5 hours with a lunch stop.
I found out some bad news. The mill its self will be closed for the season on the 15th one day before we get there. They are closing earlier due to budget constraints. All the surrounding areas will be available, just wont be able to go inside the mill itself.

The hotel will give a discount for our group. They are bike frienly. The BMW riders are having there Falling Leaves Ride the weekend before.
They have 49 rooms total and they still have 30 available that weekend as of today. When you call ask for Donna 573-438-8888. Tell her you are with the VRCC Fall Ride and Kings are $50 plus tax and Doubles are $55 plus tax.

I did take some more photos today. Its beautiful there.

I too have met Painter and Po ,Thems good folks.   Its ashame the insides of the Mill at Alley Springs will be closed . I find this type of history interesting. But the Spring, Colors, and Ride should still be be good. With less to see at Alley Springs we can always stop at one of Missouri's other springs.

This looks like a fun ride!  My wife & I will get to the Super 8 Friday evening, she made the reservations today.

We haven't had much Valk exposure this year, work has gotten in the way of everything else that's Valk related!  We run into Scoobydo and Saphire occasionally and met Rainman a couple weeks ago, if it weren't for them, we'd be culturally deprived.   Wink
