Hello,

I have put a lightbar (2x 50W bulbs) on the Lady.

I want to put 2 more markerlights (2x 50W) under the engineguard.

Each lightpair has its own relais and will be triggered by the current of headlamp, cruiselamp.

QUESTION:

1. When I put all lights on (headlight (65W) + 2 lightbar (2x 50W) + 2 markerlights (2x 50W) will this cause dammage to the battery or the alternator when driving like that for a while ? Totally it comes to 265 W - without brakelight, turn signals and the other electrical lights that function on the running bike?

2. The markerlights will be triggered by the headlamp = switch on/off
A second switch wil trigger the relais from a current that is always on.

With this I have possibility to drive with markerlights ON , or to set them so that they only light when I turn on the headlamps.

3. The lightbar besides my headlamp is triggered by an always currentthread - = switch ON and OFF

I am hesitating to put here a second switch that is triggered by the driving lamp, so when I put on my headlight the lightbar-lights don't work (this is when I want to drive with headlamp for longer time, then the lightbar (2x50W) is off to spare alternator or battery.  Or is this a stupid option and have I to forget this and only make the lightbar an ON or OFF light all the time?

How do you connect these  ? Advise please before I make things complicated or stupid on my bike??

I had a tourer that I wired one set through a relay that was triggered by the low beam wire and another set through a relay that was triggered by the high beam wire. This way I aways had 3 lights running at once but never all 5 at one time. The lower lights ( mounted low on cerash bars) came on with the low beams. The higher lights mount on windshield brackets beside regular headlight came on with the high beams. Upper lights were aimed out to sweep the road ditches for critters hiding there at night. I never had a problem from charging system with this setup. Great visional effect when running low beams as the triangle of light made bike look bigger and more like the light pattern of a train.

Here in Belgium the streets are rather dangerous, certainly for a bike at day.

So the lamps of the lightbar near the headlamp should work with the driving lamp (for more visibility).

When I apllicate my lightclaxon then the headlight will turn on together with the 2 lower lamps on the crashbar. But then they will all 5 be on.

Should this cause troubles (265W of only light?)

That's 22 amps for the front lights alone. You probably have another 5 or so amps for rear light and engine and then nearly 4 amps if you have the indicators on.  This puts you over 30 amps and the alternator is rated at 40 amps so in theory you should be OK. I would make sure you have a good battery and turn them all off if you need to start the bike. Others may have more practical knowledge mine is purely theoretical as I have LED's for all my bulbs (including high output spot lights) except the headlight so have not run into a problem.
