Sooo...Saturday, September 11...

Stew cookoff at the fairgrounds in Clarksville...$4 gets you a bowl (fund raising to pay for the Red River county fair), and you get to wander around to all the different booths and sample as many as 25 different stews. I vowed last year to try them all and despite doing my best, well, I failed. Nobody understood when I held out the bowl and said, "Just a little please."

"Sure thing" they said as "Bloop" goes an entire ladle full into the bowl.

The FIFTEEN I did manage to try were outstanding.

I don't have a stew in...but I will some year soon!

Bowls for the all you can eat” stew supper will go on sale at 4:30 p.m. and serving will begin at 5 p.m. The cost will be $4 for adults, $3 for youth, and $1 for drinks

I did my best last year to eat all I could...but I know when I'm in over my head.

I sure could use some help eatin' all this stew..

I'm not going to be able to eat it all myself y'all...

Just a few more days...I think I can already smell the cooking!

So... Does the $4 stew bowl include a personal tour of the Two Towers? Wink

-Also - What's the best route to Clarksville from the Metromess? And where in town is the fairgrounds?

Fastest is I-30 to Mt Vernon and then up TX 37 to US82.

Plenty of backroads though...we run up through Farmesville, Greenville, Paris all the time.

Fairgrounds are on Business 82 on the east end of town. Hard to miss.

Two towers tours can be done.

Next office visit, currently scheduled next Wednesday.  And then it will just be for caging.  Motorcycling is out for another 4 weeks or more, depending on my degree of compliance with doctor's orders.

I think I'll do some longer term maintenance on the Valk while I'm banned from riding.  Just sit on a stool and tear stuff apart.

John - D'oh! You were so close too! Missed some REALLY good stew!

I managed to get through I believe about 10 bowls, or there abouts, but the fried corn bread pushed me over the edge... Dang that was some good stuff!!!

Thanks again for the hospitality and the invite Daniel! Had a great time, and will put it on the calendar for next year as well!

I got kinda worried when I first got there. Everyone was real friendly, but I didn't know anyone, was looking for Daniel, and when I finally found him, he was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape!

Turns out he was one of the judges in the stew competition, but they relieved him of his duties soon enough, and we got to go around tasting some of the best stews I ever had...

I mean... With an ingredient list like this, it's GOT to be good! (Ironically, this was my very favorite one, and the only stew I saw that completely ran out before we left)

The ride home was absolutely glorious... The sun went down, the temps came down, and I was treated to a spectacular light show just north of Commerce. Luckily, I didn't get wet, just got to enjoy the lightning...

Had a kid on a zip-splat play around with me a little bit. I knew he could take me, but I think it was surprising him just how close it was when the fat lady roared... He eventually fell way back, then flew by me with everything he had... It was all friendly, we waved as he shot by...

Pulled into the garage, and noticed just how close I am to having a brand new bike. Half tempted to just ride off tonight and finish it off...
