A friend sent me these photos Thursday night. Here is the accompanying text in the e-mail.

Look what was found just south of Canton, TX .. Near a new KB homes subdivision.
Date: Wednesday, August 18, 2010, 8:57 PM

15 foot Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake. Largest ever caught on record.
After seeing this, I did a little research, and learned the following:
One bite from a snake this large contains enough venom to kill over 40 full grown men.
The head alone is larger than the hand of a normal sized man.
This snake was probably alive  when George H. W. Bush was President.
A bite from those fangs would equal being penetrated by two  1/4 inch screwdrivers.
A snake this size could easily swallow a 2 year-old child.
A snake this size has an approximately 5 and 1/2 foot accurate striking distance. (The distance for an average size Rattlesnake is about 2 feet)
Judging by the size of the snake, it is estimated to weigh over 170 pounds. How much do you weigh?

Sorry to be the party pooper, they are cool pictures, but it was "only" a little over 7 feet, and it was in Florida, not Texas...

(I still wouldn't wanna tangle with a 7 foot snake!)

Well Horse hockey!!!
I fell for that. It was sent to me by a middle school superintendent who rarely sends me bogus stuff. I never checked because it was from him.

Yep, those rattlers are tough critters. I ran over on while working at an Oasis north of Phoenix and the gutts were hanging out of the snake while he continued to try to bite my front tire.  I was looking down on the scene and he kept trying to bite the tire even after running over the 5 foot snake several times.  When I left the snake was still trying to bite the tire that was now gone and all he was biting was air.

We've been invaded by eastern diamond backs here in Nebo. (I believe wildlife folks have released a few batches in the nearby mtns) Since June there's been 7 killed within 1/2 mile of my house. Four within a couple hundred yds. And the eighth one got away while a neighbor went to get a shovel.
