His name is Don Holmes.  He's 63 years old and just gave up riding recently.  He and his wife traveled all over the US on his Gold Wings.  He gave up riding after driving my Miata and fixed up a used BMW roadster.  He's a great former rider and served in the Navy aboard a submarine as a reactor tech. (I don't know the Navy rank for that.

Anyway, some weeks ago he was admitted into the hospital with kidney stones.  The staff loaded him up with liquids to 'flush' away the stone and he went into congestive heart failure because of the excess fluids with an off the scale blood pressure.  As a result of that, he started bleeding in his brain. They had to rescusitate him.

He's now home, I talked to him and he's recuperating. However, the bleeding could begin again at any time causing a massive stroke. According to the doctors, he has some very small brittle arteries in his brain, maybe inherited.

He's asking for all his records and will go over them with his wife, an RN.

To sum it up, the hospital staff screwed up and now he's has this hanging over his head for the rest of his life.  He belongs to my church but still needs prayers.  He told me that it was a good thing that he quit riding before this happened since he could never ride again and possibly kill his wife if something happened.

This brings back many unpleasant memories when i was a caregiver for my wife.  Doctors, even those with tremendous egos, are still human and make mistakes.

Please pray for Don, thank you.

sorry to hear.

They should have listened to his lungs a little more often. Usually its second nature when running fluids.

Fudgie, he couldn't breathe because his lungs were so full..  They called in a cardiologist who told them there was nothing wrong with his heart and to put him on lasix immediately.  What the hell were they thinking?

Prayers & thoughts from Iowa.

Wayne,

Pass on to him I'm a survivor of almost the same mistake, and that was 18 years ago.   I've ridden up to the this year.    Only put a couple of miles on MGM, but the Chevy has had some miles to her 200,000+ this year.

Mostly in town running back and forth to the various Dr's.   I've lost muscle mass reason for my not riding MGM right now.

Going to the gym to fix that.  Hope it works.  Would hate to of lifted them stupid weights for nuttin.

Alot of it is from fluid over load. Run to much IV fluid to fast it backs up into the lungs. Lasix, which is a diaretic, pulls the fluid out of the lungs.
Its so sad it had to happen.

Prayers sent.

Sometimes the most dangerous thing you can do is go to a doc for a serious problem. I lost my Dad and one of my sons to doctors screw-ups. Sometimes you just don't have any choice but to trust them and hope for the best.

Hope your bud is able to make a full recovery.
