I've not had time to check it out but I understand that hidden in the Obama Care Law that was passed is a requirement that FFL dealers MUST record your social security number if you buy or sell more than $600.00 in firearms at their dealership in a year..  The requirement is deeply buried in the Obamacare law.  I briefly seen it in the law but I don't remember what section.  Don't tell me it couldn't be done, they do it all the time. Nancy Pelosi said that they had to pass the bill to see what's in it!  Ok, we're seeing!

All the more reasons to vote this November!  Gosh and I thought I wouldn't try to post anything political.

It would be extremely helpful to post a link to a valid news article, or better still, the provision in the bill itself.  A SSN cannot be used by itself to provide identification to purchase a firearm, so I don’t know why it would be needed, unless you will be taxed on a sale or purchase.

I haven’t received an NRA-ILA alert about this, so it’s either a hoax or so subtle no one has figured it out yet.

Just FYI

SSN is OPTIONAL on the ATF 4473 now and is used as an identifier during the instant check if supplied.

It's more convoluted than I thought.  It has to do with the IRS and was inserted into the Health Care law. If so, it's back door legislation for small businesses including gun dealers.

Got to www.stopform1099.org  and make your own judgement .

I'm not a lawyer so I can't follow it.

True.  This has been a part of ATF 4473 since 2002.  It helps reduce the possibility of misidentification as a felon or restricted person.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Just buy a gun at another gun shop each time you want to buy one.  Cheesy

Well, I AM a lawyer and from reading just those two articles provided above and not researching farther, it states that a "business" who buys more than $600 worth of products or services from a provider will have to send a 1099 form to that provider at the end of each tax year....

so, first of all, I don't see where it applies to 'individuals" who buy more than $600 worth of products or services from a provider....

and second, if you are a business and are buying firearms, purchase up to $599.99 from each provider and you don't have to worry about it.... uglystupid2

I think the concern is that if you SELL a gun to a gun shop or other business, they have to send you a 1099 if the sale was over $600.  I don’t know if that’s actually the case, but it looked like the individual would be a vendor under that law and subject to taxes for the sale.  Please tell us that isn’t how it will work!

Kinda interesting.
Ya know. if you get a mortgage thru Fannie Mae you are NOT required to give your SSN on the application by their regulations, maybe the lender will ask (require) it.

at least you still have the right to own guns! Don't ever let them legislate your guns from you.
