OK now that I've got ya all turned around, I'll try and explain.

Been a smoker for the last twenty something years, with many "attemps" at quiting with no luck. Well it seems that I've developed acute (personally I think it's fugly) bronchitis, with a side dish of pneumonia for good measure thrown in. Well as the title says it's now my forth day without one of my sticks, and I gotta tell ya- it feels pretty darn good

Heres the kicker, I planned on taking off work for SmokinJoes FCR for a few days and ride the Smokies with some new found friends. I've been home sick in bed since Friday, and according to the Dr. it may be sometime next week before he will release me to return to work.

Here's the big question- do I show off my big set of "hootspa" and still take my vacation as planned or play nice with my bosses?

Great, on the puffing!! I'm at 11 months, and feeling better all the time. Still don't have any breath under hard exertion, but that's probably here to stay, after 45 years of abusing my lungs. Good on 'ya, keep it up!

As for the other - let your conscience dictate. I tell the people I work with, when they ask me about using a day of sick leave, as annual leave, do whatever you want, as long as you are willing to lose your job if you get caught. Just sayin'....

Think of it as a "mental" health day/week. Sometimes more important than physical health.

If the vacation was posted to work before the docs told you that you were sick, AND the doc says that you can go, I would go.

If you were going to feign more sickness to get more time off, that is something I wouldn't do.

However, if I told them that I would be taking vacation from XXX to XXX, and all was good,on YYY when I told them, I would see no reason to cancel. Unless getting sick burned up all of your paid time off, it is your time off.

BTW,
In my experience...
Quitting doesn't suck until the end of the first week. Then it is ugly for a month. I quit dipping in 2006, still get the urge every so often.

However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I saw go for it! If they gave you a neb for breathing treatments take it with you. Cover your face with a bandana or something to help with the wind and cool/damp weather.

I've called in sick to go for a ride before. Only caught once. I guess 'when you hurt your back' they assume I cant ride a bike.  Undecided I had small pneumonia a week before the CBR last year. Still went but was a tad SOB the whole time. I have asthma to my whole life.

Congrats on the smoking. Last shift at EMS we had a few breathers we were called on. Of coarse they all still smoked and were on home O2. WTF. I dont have sympathy for them, and they knew it to.  crazy2

I have heard it's harder to quit the cigs than it is to quit heroine.

My wife quit cold turkey, my Mom did too.

Both started young.

I never did.

Here's to all you guys that quit.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement from all. Day four is over, and we progress into day five, count em 5 days without a miserable, stinky, cancer stick stuck outta my mouth. It seems to be going ok, but my biggist fear is that once I feel better I'll want one- right now the thought of smoking makes my head want to explode.

On the other front, the FCR- well with it being three weeks away, and the time off has already been approved- I believe I'm gonna try and make it-
