Got a call from my bank and was told a large ammount was transfered out of my accounts. Somehow they cracked my user name and password. The money will be replaced but what a hassle. 5 business and personal account.

It's that redistribution of wealth you've been hearing so much about.

Damn,
I feel for you.
I keep watching my bank accounts waiting for something but have been lucky so far.
They rifled my desk and passed up boxes of blank checks...?

The two should swap notes about recent purchases.  But not jump to a bad conclusion either.

That's strange they would call you after the fact. My bank calls me for anything outside of what is normal expenditure for where I live. They even called me about a $9 charge a few months back, and it wasn't mine. We can't figure out how my debit card was compromised but it was, the charge was for some specialty shop in the UK. They often try a small amount to see if you catch it, and if not then they hit you big time.

By now the majority of Americans have been a victum of Identity theft or Credit Card fraud.  Had an upscale credit card from a brokerage firm and a thief hacked into my computer and was able to get the user name and password.  The thief then purchased 8K in Gold coins on the net, before the card was cancelled.

I can't figure out what kind of business that sells Gold coins would take a credit card on the net for a large amount, and not check the purchaser out.

The ones that don't care as long as they get thiers. I have never been on the business side, do they get to keep the funds, or are they out the coins?  Business people??

I had my PayPal hacked recently by a company in the UK. They were showing that I was making $100. - $140 purchases and recurring charges.  Paypal picked it up and notified me. Took a few days to correct it but all money was refunded.

My paypal got hit as well. The person tried to set up a payment for my balance to their bank account. Luckily I checked my email and saw that a payment had been scheduled. I was able to cancel it and change my password before anything went through. I don't keep any money in my paypal account anymore.

Sorry to hear about your bank account. There aren't many things that make me as angry as thieves.

It wasn't that large of an amount, about enough to buy a real nice Valk. Now it's Valk related

That sux!  Glad that you can get your money back.

You hear more and more of that kind of thing everyday.  Somebody got my Visa Amazon card number and made a small purchase in the UK, probably as a setup to really nail my account.  Fortunately, Visa caught it and called me.  They killed the purchase, canceled my card, and sent me a new one.  The odd thing is that I only use it for Amazon purchases.

The way it works is that when a customer pays with a debit card, "visa" pays the business, then "visa" collects from the bank.  If there is fraud, the bank will get it's money back from "visa" and so on back to the business.  It is up to the business to verify the identity of the purchaser.  I THINK this is how it works, but I could be wrong.

Was a victum of  Identity thief back in 2005. It took about a year to get most of it taken care of but I still get some calls from people that think I owe them money. About once a year I'll get a call because these  collection companies sell their accountant  and try to recover debts. I just now got my credit score back up to where it belonged.

I have been hit twice in the last 18 months. Once on my joint account with my wife and once just last month on a buisness account. About $2000.00 total but the bank replaced the $$ both times no ?? asked.
