I unfortunately did not take any pictures of this but I was able to find another very giving VRCC member who offered to sell me a Dynatek-3000 ignition control module (ICM). I received it this afternoon and was able to get it installed for the ride into the office this evening.

Well it works and so far works very well. I will try and get the new Dynatek mini coils that are matched to the ICM, hopefully this combination with the carb work I did will really pep up the FatLady, and maybe get me a few miles to the gallon.

Yesterday I re-installed the Piggy pipes back onto the end of my exhaust pipes really made her quiet again. I ordered a set of the extended Chrome tips to help get me a little more sparkle out back. Those might even help move the sound farther back to help make the ride even more comfy for the wife.

I am sure there is more to come shortly, looks like I am going to install a belly tank and that will bring my onboard fuel volume up to 9.9 gallons. I am sure there are some things I missed during all of this but please feel free to go and browse my pictures on photobucket.

Here is the link to the slideshow.

It's  a little late now, but if you ever take your rack off the trunk again, I would get a can of spray expanding foam and spray a little in between the inner/outer shell of the lid, so it has more support.

After it firms up, just put a drill through it again. I'll be doing this in the next few weeks after I get some car vinyal wrap to hid the red color on my IS trunk which I mounted on my ACE T.

I actually did take the advice of another member gave was to use silicone.

The gap between the two shells sure ain't much, so what I did was trim the tip from the tube of silicone I put my (wife's thumb one one side) the tube tip on the other side. Managed to get about 4 pumps from the calking gun into each hole. I think it might be a couple ounces in each hole. Maybe that will be enough.

Please explain what this cover your planning on using is and how it applies. Thinking I would like to put some sort of covering under the rack that would cover the entire red section in the center of the trunk lid.

I mounted my Valk IS trunk from the wreck, onto my Shadow ACE Tourer. My bike is a nice black/cream, and the trunk is black/red.

So I'm going to use some vinyl car wrap. You know, the graphic designs you see on vehicles, they apply it like window film on to the outside of your vehicle. I'm going to cover up the red painted areas with black vinyl.

That's a great idea, just gotta  do it. Always easier to think about it than actually doing it. For me at least.

Using the stock rubber mount sure seemed like it wiggled around too much so I padded with a little bit of stiff foam for high temp pipe insulation.

Fordmano your string was one of the better I've ever run across! After reading the entire piece I have a few questions please. Was your original Dan Marc install OK?  Also did you ever go back and polish your hydraulic reservoirs on the handle bar?

Wow, I figured this thread was long forgotten.

Salty1: I did not have any problem at all with the Dan-Marc fuel valve install. knock on wood like my hard head, no problems with that at all as of yet.

As far as the Brake and Clutch reservoirs, I am just way too busy and also a huge lack of talent in the polishing arena I have forgone addressing those items. So, no they are still scummy stock looking.

On your Galfer brake lines, I noticed you mentioned the lines don't fit in the front fender brackets tightly.  In your pics you show the supplied rubber sleeve below the brackets, those sleeves are moveable. Just slide them up to where  you need them, then put your other piece over them and you'll have a nice tight fit.

Really? WOW I never even thought about the possibility of them moving.

Thanks a bunch, I am at work so I will run out to the parking garage and check....

Well I am not 100% convinced it was worth all the extra money, that being said it rides like a dream. LOL!
I still have a hadling issue I can't figure out, still leaning toward possible swing arm pivot bearings or head bearing or just bad luck with tires.

The front end dives a bit but definately smoother and more forgiving over rough and regular sufaces than stock did, and the front feels well planted in the turns.
Would I do the same fork work,,, probably but only if I know and trust the mechanic/shop.

Hope that helped a little bit.

WELL I'll be cursed! Embarrassed

Olddog was absolutely correct, those little rubber deals on the Galfer brake lines do actually slide. cooldude

Here is the little black rubber line cover he was refering too.

The one actually attached to the cable and not the larger diameter one that was the stock one in the brake line holder.

Sorry the picture is blurry, but I think you can see the little Galfer rubber line cover (that actually slides up and down on the Galfer brake line) and the stock rubber line cover a little more defined in this picture from the angle.

Thanks again Olddog. angel

Nice pics. Are you doing anything to clean-up those rims?  How did the kitchen table hold up against the carb solvent that was splashed? I have to ask why you went to larger jets with the stock setup.
Did this make a negative effect on your mpg's? Are you running a trigger wheel and a K&N air filter?

Lets us know your results. Thanks,

Thank you Brian.

Not planning on doing anything as of current about the disgusting looking rims, we managed to adopt the Brother-In-Laws dog. They have lost their house and stuck in an apartment that they clain dosen't allow dogs of his size.(40lb limit, this dog is around 25-30 Hmm go figure) Anyway this old F-tard mutt refuses to NOT piss on my bike and since I am stuck storing all of my bikes outside in the back yard I wont spend any effort to work on rims until he is gone probably another 1-2 years he is pretty old. I told the wife that the day that damn dog dies is the day I order my new chrome rims. I just don't undertsand this mutt my 2 labs NEVER piss on anything of value...

The table did very well, I used a slab of cardboard and a large thick towel over that but we also have a sheet of plexiglass that covers the entire table to protect it from my kids. So the table is fine.

I seemed like I was running a bit lean at the top end, the bike always seemed to run warmer than I thought it should at extended highway speeds,,, it did help a little bit but not as much as I hoped it would.

Yes there has been a slightly negative effect from the larger jets and the other work done, not sure exactly the culprit but my mileage did drop a bit,,, easily 2-3 Mpg, but I am very HAM fisted so a lot of the fuel loss is probably my fault. I normally run 75-80+ too and from work just about 60 miles round trip (more than 50 is highway) and on the way home I often run 85-95+ and it seems easier now with the work that was done so that is probably most of my mileage loss.....

Yes 4degree trigger wheel.
Yes K&N without prefilter.
And Yes a Dyna3000 set at setting 7 with the retard capability setup with a switch under the tank so I can flip it while riding. seems to give me a bit more poop when retarded 10degrees. It's just seat of the pants but I think pulling the front wheel off the ground leaving a stop light is proof that the retard position gives me a bit more oomph,,,, although I get a slightly better mileage when not retarded so I run in that condition most of the time unless there is a Harley that needs a whoopin...

I have considered going back to the stock 100's stock jets or maybe try a set of 102's. I just haven't gotten around to it.

Ok I figured I would get back at this thread for a minute or so.
I have added a few tid bits. The best one lately was a gift from another member "MikeFoSho" Thanks Mike.

I spent a couple days working with Mike on His converted tourstate from Standard. We did the De-Smog added a belly tank changed over to a Pingel petcock, synched the carbs ad finished up some wiring for the I/S trunk he installed.

After a while to my surprise this showed up on my porch.

WOW! I guess he liked my work,,,, Thanks Mike.

We had spoke about how much I liked the look of the rear spoiler and how much I liked the added 3rd brake light that it offers. well I guess he remembered our conversation.

So this weekend I finally installed it I was plenty worried about drilling more holes into my trunk lid and the possible consequences of a mistake. So with my wifes assistance I went for it and this is how it turned out.

Nice, I really like it, thanks again Mike.

Now here a while back when this thread started I was in the planning of a road trip from the Bay Area (San Jose, CA.) to Las Vegas with some friends and this is one of the big pushes to get all these things done to my bike.

Well while we were on the trip my riding buddies and thier wives all suggested that my wife would be much more comfortable if I installed floor boards for her so I have recently finally gotten that upgrade done.... and added a a little more chrome in the process also.
I scored a set of newer nicer than what I had for Highway pegs and chrome rear peg mounts to replace my stock black mounts. and when the new floor boards came in I moved the newer page to the highway peg location and installed the wifes new floor boards...

Let me appologize for the poor quality pictures, not sure why but the camera was having a bad day with the lighting...

Fordmano,
I enjoyed reading your thread so much so I book marked it two years ago since I new at some point I’d want to refer to it.  And I’m at that point now so I think it deserves to go to the head of the line again…..it’s a great read and a fantastic resorse.

Last week I completed my desmog, and similar to you I removed the evap equipment right down to canister, and added a crankcase filter between the number 6 air vent tubes. (As another member had suggested be addressed on the California bikes).

This week I’m adding a Pingle petcock and Dan Marc shut off.  I ‘m not touching the carbs……other than to plug  the vacuum lines and air vent lines.

My questions….

Based on your experience and the small changes that I’m making here……Is there anything out of the ordinary that I should be considering?

Also wanted to know how you handled the tank vent line since the evap canister, and evap emissions carb air vent control valve were removed?

Your input is appreciated…

Bob

WOW!!!

I am so very lucky to still be getting referred too and my thread. Thank you.

I think I am a little confused or just not real clear about some of what you’re asking.

((QUOTE: Last week I completed my desmog, and similar to you I removed the evap equipment right down to canister, and added a crankcase filter between the number 6 air vent tubes. (As another member had suggested be addressed on the California bikes).)) What kind of filter was used for the crankcase and where was it installed, I haven’t heard of this from memory.

I think you will need to leave the air vent lines open. I think I left them all in place and actually even left he "T" type connector ion place and have a single line running from that and down over the rear of the engine...

There shouldn't be really anything to worry about, nothing you mentioned sounds like it will cause you much of any issues.

The tank vent line is really easy, just make sure it's there and not kinked on anything and you should be good. I actually don’t even have much of one attached at all, I think the hose I have attached to the vent line on the tank is only about 6 inches or so long and just hangs down toward the rear of the engine so if it overflows it dribbles down the back of the engine and to the ground.

Hope that helps a little bit, if not then keep asking and I will work on better answers for you.

Fordmano, I was referring to Tim Skelton's write up on California Valk's, here's the link http://www.timskelton.com/valkyrie/tech/smog.htm

...

I questioned this because in your tenth picture down in your write-up you show the six in to one pulled along with the other smog components....Did you reinstall them?

Thanks again for taking the time to share your feedback, it much appreciated.

I think the reference to a filter is that line looks to be pointed to the airbox (aka:filter) Mine is completly open to the air.

The gang of six is called (someone will correct me I am sure) Purge lines,,, I plugged all of these at the carbs individually and the other line approx 3/8" is a carb vent line. No I don't really understand the difference but the vent line is still attached to both banks of carbs and left open attached to nothing at all.

Does that help explain a little better?

P.S. changing to the colors when quoting makes it really difficult to read. at least for my old eyes.

No I don't really understand the difference but the vent line is still attached to both banks of carbs and left open attached to nothing at all.

Does that help explain a little better?

P.S. changing to the colors when quoting makes it really difficult to read. at least for my old eyes.

Sounds good....I sure do appreciate your time....I apologize for the color thing and will keep that in mind in the future, thanks again!

Also, when everything is in the "quote" box

the font size is smaller.

I just did a search for "brake upgrade" and came across this amazing thread. THIS IS AWESOME!

Thanks for taking the time you put into this thread Fordmano. A few years ago now, but still totally relevant.

Cheers.  cooldude cooldude cooldude

ADMIN:

This thread is full of good ideas which would never be found using our friend, the search function.

Many other threads of a similar nature exist.

It would also be very desirable to have a place to post an idea, product, etc. which would not justify opening a new topic.

Just an idea..

Thanks Dan, appreciate the mention to to powers inn-charge.

I kinda wish more folks would do this so we all could broaden our ideas and knowledge base no matter what your experience is or your tastes are there is always someone out there with a better or different idea or plan that others like myself would appreciate. I may not like  or want to try what some else shares but I love gaining knowledge and come up with that ne idea.

Thanks!

Hey Meathead,
Thanks for the kind words.
I miss being around, I lost my job back on Dec. 4th and haven't had any luck finding a new job I worked nights and had lots of time to be online for the last 10 y are and NO surfing and posting here had nothing to do with my job status actually I was required to surf to keep in touch with network status for the university. I haven't done much posting anywhere or building any new guns ( a real passion for me that I wish I would have found many years sooner) I was a CNC machinist when I was young. Would have been nice to melt the two things together machining and gun parts.  I really enjoyed doing this thread and if things go well I may do another thread with much more details and step by step references. Likely more pictures. I need to get back to work first. Hoping to buy another Valk to setup as a solo bike and if that happens I will likely tear it down to nuts and bolts and shine polish and refresh everything so it's likely to be a few hundred pictures and untold amount of text.

I struggle with doing this from the phone so a new PC may be inline.
Take care buddy.
