So my wife and i went for a long ride yesterday and found it difficult to communicate (she was trying to give me directions). I've got a set of portable radios I used to use hunting. If I could find a throat mike to would connect to these things, any reason it wouldn't work well?
My bike is a Standard so I don't have an intercom setup, plus it would be nice to be able to talk when she's on her bike (HD Sportster).

Thanks all

I also search about 1/2 a year about for throat mics, after seeing a new product for gaming consoles, where they had a thoat mic, just like the gold old fashion ones from WWII Germany for tank commanders used.

I would also be interested in knowing how you fair, as I couldn't come to any kind of conclusion.

I tried the links, also looking at Cabelo's and couldn't find any prices. It also looks like these mics are for radios (2.5 - 3.5 mm plug jacks) rather than our 5 pins for the intercom on my Valk IS.

I'm no radio expert, but this 5-pin din may fix your problem.

I'm no electronics expert by any means. But with this adapter, It could wired it to a CB mic and connected to the correct pins.
But then there would be another mod to actually use the hand held mic instead of the stock CB talk button.
Any ideas on this???
Thanks Smiley

prolly have to still use the bikes key to activate the cb.

could be a way around it though. the pin outs don't include a key(transmit) from the bike.
 Undecided

this is what i have as pinout

Guess this would be step one.
Next step would be the transmitt.
Thanks for the pin ID's. Smiley

Be careful to get a mic with the correct impedance. I found out the hard way. Some of them work, some of them don't. I don't remember what it was. I bought a few head sets, and some of them wouldn't work on the mic side. But I did find a set of Koss that did work fine. It was long ago, and I don't remember what the impedance was.

+1 on the matching the impedance.
I bought a PC headset and rewired it to the correct 5 pin connector.
I could hear perfectly but when I tested the Mic, I was barely audible to the other station.
Put my wired helmet on and they could hear me perfectly.

Anyone know what the Mic impedance is/should be?
