Hi All,

I searched but could not get a straight answer.

Will all Valk seats fit a standard? My new 97 came with a Corbin gunfighter. I have the stock
pillion pad but no riders seat which had been misplaced. Can I use another valk model seat(Interstate?)or just get a standard riders seat?

Any help appreciated.

Due to the bigger tank, an Interstate seat has a shorter nose.  If you install one on a Standard/Tourer you will have a small gap.  Mustang advertises their seats will fit all versions of the Valkyrie.

Thanks for the reply X Ring.

Any experience with the Mustangs yourself? My bike has the corbin gunfighter on it at the moment which looks nice but it really pushes you towards the tank. The fella I bought it off said the stock seat allows you to sit an inch or so further back? Unfortunately he has lost the stock riders seat and I only have the stock pillion seat. I am tall and would rather the extra room.

Any advice on the best way to go? I know seats are very 'horses for courses' but any general feedback would be appreciated.

If you don't find anyone with a stock seat here's a cheap seat to get you started. The 2000 stock seat is much better than the previous years. Seats are all different and everybody has different opinons.                                                         http://www.directlineparts.com/product.asp?pid=246&str=2

I have the Mustang setup on mine and REALLY like it - I'm 6 ft tall.  The pillion for passenger is very comfortable too according to SO. The Mustang passenger backrest is different in that it tilts forward a little bit so she is sitting more upright.

If you want I do have the stock seat in a box that I could sell for a very reasonable price. Mine's a '99 and would be a shoe in on your bike.

Here's a pic of mine with Mustang seat ....

and here's a pic with stock seat and aftermarket rider backrest ....

Thanks for the replies gents. The mustang really looks comfy! I went on a 200km or so ride last weekend and the Corbin was generally nice. The rear fastback hump is higher than the hog ones I have seen them do, and really supports your lower back. It just seems to plonk you forward to me, and my knees felt a little cramped. I really think highway pegs are the answer here and any seat will leave me a little cramped for leg room at 6'3'. It is just the ergonomics of the Valkyrie. No getting past those big cylinder banks!

I upgraded the passenger seat to an Ultimate and have the original (1998 Tourer) I'd be willing to part with; although I have no idea what its worth. I did have it recovered in leather so it would be a little cooler to sit on, but you would never know the difference to look at it.  The guy that did it was a real pro and even the stitching matches. Send me an email if you are interested: john3xv1@netzero.net.

I'm 6'4" with long legs. Mine now fits me like a glove after taking an Air Rider gel seat pad and adding the 3" dense foam from a discarded pool floating chaise lounge into the bottom of it.  This raises me up about 4" and makes the standard pegs and highway pegs fit just right.  Only caution: you may get some wind on your head since you are that much higher. I solved that one by having a custom windshield made by Rifle (not as expensive as it sounds; only slightly more than than their standard inventory) and selling the stock Tourer windshield to a VRCC member who needed one. Now I feel comfortable riding 400-500 miles a day on a bike that I once didn't want to go more than 100 miles on at a time.

4 inches on top of your seat! Must be a hell of a view from up there!

I found it cramped but only after 100km or so. I ended up just throwing my legs over the top of the crash bars and it was fantastic! I am looking into pegs as we speak. I just need to find a replacement rider seat as my wife cannot ride on the new toy until i do!

Any suggestions on the pegs John? It seems the lower crash bar is the popular choice? Do they affect cornering clearance when the pegs are up??

Email coming.

I've had Mustangs on all my bikes until this past spring when I succumbed to the siren song of an Ultimate.  Where are you from?  The guys offering to sell you their seats may be shocked at the shipping depending on whether you're Canadian or from another country.

Originally had Kury ISOs mounted to the lower crash bar that would occasionally drag a little if you leaned it a lot.  They were okay, but wanted something a little more substantial to rest my whole foot on , so upgraded to Rivco floorboards, which I love, but I believe they are out of production.  Don't have the Kury ISOs to sell you; traded them for transmission covers.

Hi Marty,

Right you are. I am worse than Canada. I am in Australia.

I did mention it in my wanted ad in the classifieds but just realised I had not mentioned it here.
I don't really have alot of choice, there are really zero options for Valkyrie parts down here.
US shipping is actually pretty reasonable to here considering the distance.

Maybe I should look at buying bulk gear from the parts direct link I was given. They may be able to combine postage. I assume they are affiliated with the site some how? I have seen them mentioned in other threads.

I want some Cobra pipes. I need highway pegs, rider seat, THE LIST IS GROWING!!  Evil

How hard is it to get parts from New Zealand?  I have some super forward controls that I bought from Barry at Big Bike Things.  You might want to contact him.  http://www.bigbikethings.com/

That is correct, and the stock seat for a 2000 or later is MUCH more comfy that the stock 97 seat, also sits you further back than stock.  85 bux at HDL, as explained above.  Hoser  cooldude

Ratlebars.com have peg kits to move stock pegs forward and down gives you about 3 in forward and 1 in down. There was a waiting period to get some before I don't now about now.  I cheated and made my own out of some 2in by 1/4 flat bar. Very easy to do. Chet's are chrome but really  I painted mine black and they don't show hardly at all.
