Yesterday my wife and I took a ride to Cabelas to buy me a new 9mm pistol. However last Sunday we took a ride out to the Zukey Lake Tavern in Lakeland MI. We had to fill up on our way out there and we went to last monday nights QAMG bike night in Plymouth MI, and parked our bikes until yesterday. Both of our tripmeters read 145 miles when we started out to Cabelas. Her GL1100 read one quarter tank left of gas. By the time we got to Cabelas in Dundee MI our tripmeters both read 197 miles. The temps were 45-50 degrees and we never went over 65 MPH.
There is a bar/resturant and gas station at the entrance to Cabelas, so as we left we both fillied up our tanks. My tank was filled to the max with 4.3 gallons of regular unleaded.

197 miles/4.3 gal= 45.81 MPG

Now I admit my bike is not a stocker. It has the "Simple ECT Mod", an I/S ECM and the I/S carb springs, polished intakes, raised tank, and Cobra 6x6 pipes. I know from experience that that the GL1100 can get 45 MPG easily, but who would have thought the Valk could get as good mileage. The more I ride the Rat Rod Valk, the more impressed I am with this machine.

41 mpg with my '97 is the all time best. That happened only once while on the very flat, limited stopping, 50-55 mph Tamiami Trail (US41) between Naples & Dade corners in the Everglades.
30-32 is the norm with that bike. Have hit 35-36 a couple of times under pokey speeds.
Both Kim's '98 & our "extra" '99 consistently get better mileage than my '97. They are both Cobra equipped & not rejetted to my knowledge & the '97 will hand them both a butt whippin' in a drag race. So it kind of figures on the MPG diff. My '97 is glasspacked, IS carb springs, extra washer on the needles, and has a K&N with prefilter. No biggie but it does run well!
BTW, Kim's 750 Shadow got 71 (!!!) mpg on that same 'glades run. Shocked

When I check my mileage I go through 3 tanks of gas riding the same and average them. I have not done that with my Valk while running conservative. You know how hard that is to do. 2funny I did do 2 tanks coming back from Florida on Interstate and running a steady 85. I got 30 mpg both tanks which I thought was pretty normal. I took the same trip to FL running the same speed in my 98 Honda Accord with a V6 and got 28 mpg. Shocked I know fuel injection is alot more efficient, but I just don't understand how a 200hp 3000lb car can get as much fuel mileage as a 100hp 800lb bike. ???

A Valk with one more gear would get fantastic milage at legal speeds, can you imagine 65 mph at 2500 rpm instead of 3000 rpm?  It would have a helluva top end, also!  Hoser   Shocked

Excellent.
I've had two Valks, 98 std and now 98 Tourer.
Have never gotten better than 32 mpg (98 std. with 6* trigger wheel) on either one. Usually 25-27 mpg.-combination in town and highway.
Don't ride like a drag racer, I do like how it feels to go to 6000 rpm once in a while though.
Can't understand.
Carbs done on both, no mods to fuel or exhaust-no hills to coast down, just wondering.

Best ever was 47 mpg riding from Frisco Co. to the Royal Gorge during Inzane IX. The change in elevation was about 5000 ft.

Main difference is the aerodynamics. A car like the Accord has less than half the drag coefficient of a bike.

I just got 25.8 riding 2 up going 70 on the way home from the Romp in da Swomp in Louisiana.

I've broke into the low 50's  (50-53) on about 4 tanks, about 46-48 mpg on several tanks, and lower 40s  even more.
All these tanks were all day riding, not stop and go or rather cool off and warm the bike back up. Obviously not running highway speeds but doing legal speed limits.

At home I average around 32-34 mpg. Short rides. 12 miles to work so the engine is warming up, or stop and go traffic.

I have a Interstate ICM, ECT mod, intakes polished, and carb's balanced by ear. K&N filter w/o pre filter.  Stock exhaust with piggies cut and 3 1 inch holes cut in rear of the exhaust for a more throaty sound.

40-42 lbs on Elite 3's.

Normal riding around 40, riding the Blue Ridge Parkway last May got 48.6  But with lots of twisting it go down to low 30's    No matter what mileage is, it's always fun!

Hey Momz , I also have gotten 40 mpg as long as I stay at 3000 rpm's which is about 65 mph with just riding solo or two up ..... I had checked my mpg three times just to make sure I was not dreaming and again I got 40 mpg when I ride at 3000 rpm's steady ..... when I ride by myself and buzz around doing 75 , 80 I'm down to around 30 , 31 ,  mpg which is a no brainer ... all I have done to my Fat Lady is add a K&N filter and I opened up the air box a little more with no stumble and the La Monster 6 degree trigger wheel and I still have the stock jets with the Cobra pipes ..... I run super unleaded all the time with a LITTLE 104 octane booster at each fill up because of the crappy ethanol gas down here in Texas and it seems to run better ...... I have tried sea foam , techron and chem tool and I did not see any difference except my plugs were not running that coffee and milk color that I was used to seeing before that crappy ethanol gas showed up .... so far with the 104 octane booster on my bike the plug color is purdy close .... so congrats on your great mpg  cooldude Thanks the Geezer  crazy2

Since I had the carbs worked over, I get 35 mixed riding using High test gas.  Getting 32 on mid-grade.  Although she runs smooth and strong on mid-grade, there is a noticeable power difference using high test.   The extra power and mileage doesn't make sense to me, at the compression ratio we run.
