Universal background checks sound good but the devil is in the details. This is how I'm seeing it.

Once they tie the medical system (obamacare) in with the nics system (National Instant Check System) pretty much any doctor you've ever been to will be able to recommend you not be allowed to own firearms.

Prescribed Ritalin as a kid? Then you could be out. Anxiety drugs, sleeping pills, mood altering scrips as an adult or child? Then you could get a letter telling you to turn in your firearms. If you didn't they'd come to your door. One citizen at a time. That's a way more efficient way for Obama to disarm the citizens than a semi-auto or magazine ban.

Every time someone uses a gun in a crime, the anti's lawyer's would research the criminal to see if they could sue a former doctor for not putting him/her on the ban list. Wouldn't take much of that to get all our doctors to turn on us. Obama could probably disarm 15%, maybe 25% of US citizens that way in the next 4 years.

When it's done they'd start manipulating human pettiness, as in "if you can't have firearms it's not fair that your neighbor does". Much the same way they manipulated people in Indiana by allowing pickup truck owners to not wear seatbelts while car drivers had to.

The Supreme Court might help us but...... two of the justices who upheld our 2'nd Amendment rights will be over 80 by the time Obama is out. If one of them dies or retires while Obama is in office he'll replace him with an anti and our Constitutional Right disappears. It's truly time to call your Senators every week till this is over and pray for your country. And, if past practice is any indication, if anyone in your house loses their right to own firearms because of anxiety drugs or other scrips, then no one in the same household can own a firearm.

Universal background checks are being used as a harmless sounding "Trojan Horse" to completely defeat those of us who own firearms in my opinion.

Mike, GOA (Gun Owners of America) has the best discussion yet on the new proposal.

Plenty of problems.

Text of proposed law.

GOA, problems list. (Compromising with the devil is never a good idea.... apparently)

Yep, I mentioned in a previous post that I would favor background checks depending on the wording. The devil is in the details. New York has strict background checks for handgun licensing and I think the checks and licensing of the owner and handgun is OK. But, recently the state went and confiscated some handguns from some folks in Buffalo. Apparently the guns have been returned with apologies once the law suits started. So, with government being what it has become, I'm changing my opinion on these checks.

All this stuff is just plain scary.  An  anti-gun doctor can eliminate a constitutional right by a few notes in his medical file.  Frye, I agree, the scariest part is they can come after a few people at a time, all the time and confiscate guns one at a time. Can we  get a doctor to put some nasty note in Chuckie Schumer's file and get him removed from the Senate?

I think that's one of the worst things about Obummer-care.  It centralizes all records (financial and medical) all in one easy-to-access place where the ATF can drop in anytime and nose around.

I would like to see a mega-class action suit against big brother government to shut this crap down... 400,000+ or 1,000,000,000  gun owners sue to secure their rights before they're all gone.

After the raw emotions of Sandy Hook are simmered down and cooler heads prevail, they're still going to sneak something through under the radar once again.

Government by trickery... just friggin' great.  Angry

All of this really saddens and scares me.  The dirty bastards haven't Ethic One.  Watched the senators sponsoring the latest bill this morning on Meet the Press - every other phrase was "we don't want to take your guns - we're gunners too..." repeated over and over in various forms, so we're supposed to roll over and let em do what they want, so they help Herr Obama succeed in his agenda - whereby he gets on the scoreboard, brags about beating the NRA, in order to get more moonbats to donate and support towards more anti-gun laws - until only the police and military have them.  THEN how do we enforce the remainder of the Bill of Rights?  We can't.  Welcome to Nazi Amerika.

The way they promote and present their bill, doesn't sound so bad.  That's the scary part.  I'm afraid they will BS a lot of people into supporting them.  You have to dig to find the potential "gotchas" in the bill.  Which they of course are fully aware of, and intend to employ.  While they claim it's harmless, and all for the kids and safety to the public - to each other they admit their real agenda. While this yahoo let it slip:
"Mark Glaze of Mayors Against Illegal Guns said on MSNBC that they would be back with new demands "the day after" background checks are signed into law."
I'll bet the schemers weren't happy about that.

I pray the House stops them for now.  And we get those bastards pushing these laws voted out.  God help us if the libs retain power on the hill and the White House after this term.  I'm thinkin Hilary is going to run and the moonbats are all behind her.  "It's time."  They will completely forget her part in the Embassy shootings - and suddenly getting "sick" to skate out of accountability.  God if that lefty gets in next we're SUNK.  We need both houses and the WH to undo the damage this jerk has foisted on us.  Already I can't afford my medical care - and I have insurance.  It is so bad now you can't even recognize it from a year ago.  I cut my hand a few months ago  -  my bill was $3500 for stitches, debridement and xray - insurance paid NONE of it - 2 years ago, it would have been completely paid by insurance.  THANKS OBUMMER - REALLY "AFFORDABLE."

Meanwhile I'm CERTAIN there will be more mass shootings.  Probably with kids involved.  That has max emotional effect - precisely what the libs want.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if that evil bastard and his minions are behind it.  You heard what he said - "if it saves JUST ONE CHILD, it's worth it."  Meaning his value system is completely corrupted.  He will stomp on the constitutional rights of 300 million people if it saves ONE child.  How many children will he sacrifice to get his political agenda.  I'm betting the farm it doesn't stop anywhere near ONE.  I haven't heard ANY efforts to slow down or stop sensationalizing the mayhem so far, or any serious talk about controls on violent video games or movies which help turn these kids into numbed-out killing machines.

I'm thinkin Obummer has maybe 18 months left for his agenda.  After that, he has to rein in pissing the country off so his crew can start working on the next presidency.

Get it down to the basics, all a universal background check is, is some faceless burocrat, or toady in his staff giving you permission to own a gun maybe.  The 2nd already covers that, you dont need permission.  You have the Constitutional right.  It gripes my ass when the Pols state that background checks have nothing to do with the 2nd, when they have everything to do about it.  They are masters of misdirection, and a ton of so called pro gun republications have jumped on board this abortion while claming that they dont like it.  Our government is the way it is because they want it that way, both republicans and democrats.  Traditors, liars and thiefs and charlitans one and all.
