The Valk is a heavyweight machine and it does intimidate a lot of riders. Of course most of the VRCC members are experienced riders and we tend to be an older cross section of the overall riders in this country.

OK, I'll admit to 280 lbs.

Did you purchase your Valk based on it's ability to handle the weight of the rider/passenger?

Don't worry, it's just a silly little poll!

No I did not want a Valk to haul big "cargo"  I fell in love with the looks and the power.......I actually was concerned that I was too small at first, then I realized the bike was made for us small people.  I cannot imagine being comfortable on one if I was much taller.  But you are right weight is of little consequence.  I took a friend of mine down the 1/8 mile track on Sunday.  He must have weighed in at 280 or so and I didnt even feel it back there..........(once we got rolling)  Shocked

I tip the scales at about 275 lbs...  I didn't get the Valk because I weigh like I do, I got it because it's like no other bike out there.  The fact that it just happens to be big and comfortable, is a plus.  I've swung a leg over many bikes over the years, and after riding the 'Fat Lady', most others just seem like mini bikes  Wink

Monz, your post brings back in the "DAY". When I bought my first Honda 750 I weight in @ 150. The Dealer said you can`t out run a Rider with only a wrist and a skinney ass. I could out run all of the local guys because of my "skinny Ass". One day I pulled up beside a Cuda 440 and asked if he wanted to "run`em. He said "with that",,, I cleaned his clock.  Wink  So bottom line, weight does play a role in proformance.  Roll Eyes
Damn, now I`m 170.

I am 5’-6” and 160 Lbs and 57 years old. I had trouble picking up my 1972 CB750 when I was in my prime 35 years ago. The weight of a bike isn’t a factor in my decision. If you let a bike intimidate you you are already in trouble. You just respect it.

I've definitely never seen the petite section of the store, but my size had nothing to do with why I purchased a Valkyrie... Actually, main reason I initially bought mine was I walked into one of those deals you just can't walk away from. ($8900 brand new, they threw in the 7 year warranty and had a special on low interest financing too...)

I am 6' 6" and weigh in at 240lbs and I am 52 years old. I have been on some sort of motorcycle since I was 8 and racing at 10. (Quit racing at 35 years old, had to, had a wife that wasn't happy with me doing that) I have ridden many many bikes in my time and liked most of them but I love my Valk.
You see I was on a Harley at the time and had gone over to my dad's house. When I pulled into the driveway I seen this gloss black and chrome Valk sitting the in the sunshine with the sun twinkeling off all the chrome. I wondered who's bike that was. When I went in the house there sat my uncle holding up a set of keys, he said: 'Take it for a ride or are ya afraid you can't handle a real bike?' I grabbed the keys and told him: 'I will be back in 10 minutes.' Well it was almost an hour before I brought her back and I didn't want to bring her back. That was it, sold the Harley in a month and had my first Valk two weeks later. Did NOT buy a Valk to handle weight. Bought a Valk because she does everything so wonderful and I fell in love.   cooldude

I was off bikes for 25 years.  Got a trike, but quickly decided I really needed to be back on 2.  Mama had no problems with a 2 wheeler, as long as it was a "big" bike.  That struck me a bit odd.........

I saw the Valk and fell in love.  But when I sat on it, I didn't think I'd like the way the pegs are situated.  Rode a couple of V-twins, and decided I didn't want to be shaken to death on another "Me too V-twin."  So I took a long ride on the Valk, and it was all over.   Grin Wink

To answer your question..... I suppose its ability to carry 2 without breaking a sweat may have had a little to do with it.

Man, keep your V-twins.  I'd even take an old Parallel twin over a V.

Regarding the weight issue, I'm simply in complete denial in that department so, therefore it obviously doesn't apply. Cheesy

My first bike was a naked GL1100 with hard bags and a windshield. Got it 5 years ago from a friend on a whim, and fell in love with cruising the hi-way.
I was looking at GL1500s as I wanted more power (6' 175) and lower RPM on the road (my buddy's 1200 Wing reved at 3500 when I was at 4600 at the same speed).
Discussing this with the gang in my GWRRA group, I was thinking of going 1500, but didn't care for the Winnebago look for around town. Someone  said I should look at the 'Valkyrie'. I asked what's that, they said look it up in Google, I did, and spent all last winter reading this board.
Bought a 99 green/silver I/S this spring and put 15,000 miles on her...

I put my current weight. I was alot skinnier when I 1st bought it 10 yrs ago.  crazy2

Bought it with the intentions of riding two up. Had a VLX and the wife at the time was gonna get one to. Had it all figured out but canceled. Wanted to get 1 bigger bike instead. Wasnt planning on road tripping, just stay around home. So this Valk was it. We were way to young for a gold wing and this was big and sporty. Got divorced in 06 and the miles started to rack up. I never went on vacation in a car since then. I put twice as many miles on my bike then I do my truck.

looked at VTX's, Intruders, Stars,Vulcans and every harley made, but the
first time I sat on a Valk the rest of them disappeared!! cooldude

Weight was not the only reason but: I weigh 220.

I bought a Valkyrie because of its light weight. All except one of my other bikes is heavier than the Valkyries.

Yup! That is one of the things that sold me on My Fat Lady.
I sat on a Standard just before they hit the showrooms at the international bike show back in 97 and I loved how wide she was my friends that had ridden with me all said that bike fits you so 8 years later I have the need for a commuter bike and I found mine at a consignment shop gave $12K flat for her she only had 232 miles on the clock and lots of factory warranty left till 09 and LOTS of farkle already on her. The original owner rode her 2 times and was in an auto accident that left him a quad he hoped to ride again but never recovered as the story goes so I saw the original receipts for teh whole package and it rang up just shy of $19,500 I just could not pass her by with my work and a commute in the winter I needed the trunk and nags and that beautiful fairing with a freakin stock stereo I was in heaven.  I moved from a GL1000 to the Valk well worth the move.

There are outlyers on any statistical analysis. Looking at the attendees at Inzane in Colorado, I'd say the survey is pretty accurate. Also middle aged bunch of guys.

165 or less riding a Valk, Fluke of nature.

Bought my Valk because it was love at first sight.  Wasn't actually looking diligently for a bike (had peeked at a few Electraglides and a VTX) but when I saw the gorgeous red & white that my brother-in-law had I knew that was the bike for me.

But the main question is....

Do these saddle bags make me look fat?   laugh

I'm 5'9" 180 lbs., 58 years young.  I'm not sure what the big deal is about the size and weight of the Valkyrie.  I moved up to mine from a VTX 1300.  Not only is the curb weight of the Valk LESS than a 1300 VTX, but because of the superior weight distribution, the Valk is both lighter coming off the stand and more importantly, in the sweepers.  The Valk is also far more maneuverable at low speeds, as in parking lots and u-turns.  In short, it doesn't feel like a big bike to me at all.  Ok, the Valk is kinda wide LOL, but other than that..... I got mine kinda on a whim after 13 years of not riding. This is the natural-only progression from a CBX plus it was orange to match my favorite hobby, Allis Chalmers. Perfect in all aspects, well it will be if I go with a magna. 2-up is not comparable on the Valk from the X.

Needed a replacement for the V65 Magna that lost the timing chain. Bought mine cause I wasn't ready for a GW.  Have enjoyed the time on the bike. Feeds a need I have had for a long time. When I want to just cruise, she is a sweet ride. When I want to get 'down the road', she responds with gusto!

No experience riding a Valk before purchasing, but reading about Daniel Myer's Alaska trip, then, reading comments on this board put me in the "I've got to have a Valk" mode. It took almost five years before I found the right one. It was worth the wait.

The fact that a Valk will haul a lot a lot of ass and still haul ass was a factor. Cool

Sat on a new one in a showroom in 1997. What can I say - I fell in love right then and there. Couldn't afford one at that time, but made up my mind I'd have one. Fast forward to ten days ago and I found the one that had been calling my name all these years.

I had an ST1100 traded it in 1996 for a new Valk after I saw the desert commercial.  I was 6' , 225 pounds.

I sold the Valk after 13 years, my knees couldn't push it around any more. The longest that I kept any bike .
