The weather was superb today and my bud, Kickstand rode his Valk over. But my bike still had a few issues, so I had to keep working to make it rideable.

Found a questionable battery and had to replace it. Kickstand found a kinked petcock vaccum line, and that was addressed. Also it would not idle;.....somehow the idle adjustment was turned way down. The bike finally started and ran OK. We removed the bike from the lift and wheeled it out of the garage. Kickstand asked why there was wood under the motor? Seems the wooden lift adapter had got jammed underneath and I literally had to pry it off.

Well by this time it was too late to take it out for a test ride, as I had to be somewhere in 45 minutes and I needed to clean up and change into some good clothes and meet my wife and daughter.

There are still a few minor issues to address but for all intents and purposes, it is completed......Praise the Lord!!!

Looks good!   :cooldude:

Are the wheels powdercoated or painted?

Any plans to black out any more shiny stuff?  Like forks and pipes?

Yes,...the wheels are powdercoated and I may have the pipes ceramic coated.

The lower forks are blacked out as well. If you look closely you will see that many more parts have been blacked out than at first glance.

Nice! Stripped down but not too much. Still retains the Valkyrie's unique style without all the clutter. Nice use of the blackout treatment.  :coolsmiley:

holderd,

The finished bike is my 98 standard that was lightened and made a bit more "sinister".

But I bought an orphaned 97 standard that is truely being "bobbed", my 98 is in the background.
This is what I am starting with,...a pile-o-crap that is undergoing a severe transformation. Progress pictures to come.

Nice bikes, Momz  :cooldude:
We rarely get resto projects over here in the UK, a pile of rusted out, round the clock at least once, '98 cr*p went on E Bay for equivalent $6500 recently.
I'd be lucky to pick up a half decent low mileage Standard for less than $8k, loaded, later Tourers/IS's  are $10k.
And gas is $8.50 a gallon.....sorry, I'm moaning now

I love the shot with the blue Wing next to you.

Awesome job!!

By the way... GL 1000, 1100, or 1200???  Also quite a nice bike!

Tht is my old 82 GL1100 standard; now it's my wifes primary bike.
It is not blue, it's a 1995 Ford pickup truck color call "metalic pearlesant ultra-violet".
Lots of chrome, Aspencade rear fender, Valkyrie leather bags, and a Sargent Cycle modified OEM seat, and about 156K miles on her.

Pictures of my radiator grille/covers

I had the forks rebuilt and the lowers were coated with a flexible satin black paint.
I painted the triple trees satin black, and had the wheels powdercoated satin black also.

I'm only using the front portion of the rear fender and have cut it down along the sides.

I need to rebuild the front brake and clutch reservoirs,...but I already have new braided SS hydralic lines, speedbleeders and new ceramic brake pads.

I've also started to straighten out the wireing, replaced the missing seat latch and the chrome carb toppers.
I'm also going to get rid of the choke cable and replace it with a mechanical choke knob of my own design.

I have all new wheel bearings and seals as well as many new parts (some were generosly donated by VRCC members) and a new "Sparto" tailight.

Progress,...slow progress
Next post will have more photos.
