I'm sorry I haven't had the time to finish my carb sync tool.  Due to my working 10 hour days with a 3 hour round trip commute, my time has been short for bike related projects.  I'm NOT sorry for the work, just lack of time.  My carb tool has been sitting quietly in my family room since the day I put it's photo up on this site.  I did have time to install the carbs, reassembly my Lady and put a few miles on her.  Thing is, she's running so sweet, a carb sync is not needed at this time.  I hope to have some time soon to finish, but to tell you the truth, when I look at the carb sync tool and then at my Lady, she wins hands down.  Funny thing is, she beats just about every other object and project I got, cept paying work or sleep.  Maybe this weekend, it's supposed to rain Saturday.

Thanks for the reply.  I understand the time constraints.  It's a shame that, with the transfer to this new board, our carb synch thread isn't searchable, for the constant inflow of newbies.

And for the newbies, this was the status of my bike before synching

DUH! on the sideways thing......

I got to the archive by using the link at the top of the page, "Old Tech Archive" just under the Ultimate Seat ad

searched "carb balance" and came up with lots, try this link

Got mine made...finally...it was so pretty LOL. the sync was going good, then, oops sucked over the top in one tube and toooo low in another...air and a lot Of time to get it out. Did this about 4 times.
CRAP!! I gave up, cut off the tubes from the manifold and dumped the fluid.
Now thinking of doing a guage system with these http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93547   What do you think, gonna get six of them so can see results of all carbs at same time. Probably will need to restrict lines some, don't think these are liquid filled guages...WHAT DO YOU THINK?
My Valk was DE-SMOGGED  when I got it....is the proceedure any different from non-de-smog?
Hook, I hope you have a whole lot better results than I did, it's a pita getting that air back out!

Aaaaah, the key there is to be ready with the stop switch when first using the tool.  If any one tube is going over or under limit, shut off the engine QUICK, and make an appropriate adjustment on the offending carbs.
Screwing in raises the level, and out lowers it.

yeah Kingbee I remember all that from our previous postings and I tried to get to it quick enough to shut it off....but alas I was just not quick enough....I'm thinking with guages at least I wont have to worry about going over or too low.
By the way, your bike and truck look great!

Ken,

Just an FYI....  If you use "6" individual guages you want to make sure they are all calibrated together.  You are better off using one guage versus 6.  Or just make sure they all read the same...  There is just too many variables to consider when you use that many guages.  Just my opinion... Hope everything works out...  I bought a guage and needle valve from granger and used some fish aquarium shutoff valves.  (it's a copy of what Pharmboy made and I liked the setup and it works great).

ok Stude, thanks....how many times do you go back around to all the carbs....seems everytime when one is adjusted, it affects the others

Ken,

Your right... I check, double check, and check again...  I was always a fan of the old saying, "cut once measure twice".  I sometimes measure three or four times and cut once.  If my memory serves me correctly I went through all the carbs once and had two that were way off and then that changed the rpm's of the idle and then once you tame the idle then I went back through and checked again.  I would say i went through them five times total, but boy it sounds like a new engine!

I don't mind going over it repeatedly, heck it's fun to work on these things and the guage is really easy to work with so it's really no big deal.   I am use to playing with these types of gauges due to my line of business.  I am certified in inspecting backflows and even though I only need to go through the steps once, I usually always test them twice and if they fail I check them four times to identify the culprit.  So, it's no skin off my back to run through the carbs a few times...

Best wishes....
