Honda 520 single stage with electric start. I paid the extra for the electric start for my wife. For me, it starts the first pull every time and works great. The little Honda will always blow our snow about 35 feet. We don't get much of the light fluffy stuff in Chicago. Mostly we get 'heart attack' snow that's heavy and fairly wet. Again, no problem with the Honda. Even the stuff at the end of the driveway the street plows leave behind is no match for this single stage Honda. The grunt of it's 4 stroke engine just simply gets the job done.
All the best,
Mark
Mark, I don’t know if this is ever a problem for you, it was for me a long time ago, but if your scoop gets plugged up with that heavy snow, get some marine grade turtle wax for boats and paste it on your scoop!! That wet snow just slides on that stuff!! Oh, and if anyone cares….. This last Saturday we got 22” of snow!! Supposable a new record for one day snow fall total!! The last record was 18” back in February 1893!!

+1 and I also recommend the Borden/Elmer's "dri-slide" spray for that purpose, and of course a shot of the Honda spray polish works great, too. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm told that the spray Lemon Pledge wax is more inexpensive/ounce than anything else and works as good as anything else.

THAT...is awesome. What is it, 79? I had a 85 Scotsdale that I loved. Hunk of crap but it was great. I'm looking for a mid 80's 4x4 in a Chevy. I like my 04 Sierra Z-71 but like the truck feel of the old ones. I'll let momma drive the Sierra. Fudgie, I agree with you. I have an '04 GMC Sierra, but had an '88 K1500 that was more like a truck.

Here's my 18 year old MTD (Ace Hardware Model) 26" cut 8hp... Looks like hell, paint is coming off in sheets, seen the 'weld Dr.' a few times , but she fires up in one pull (electric start too), and gets the job done time after time... Gotta admit, I'm keeping my eye open for sales, as I know she could crap out any day. Last year, takin' care of business... Black Dog

Here's something I strongly recommend to any of you with heavy snowloads in the winter especially the wet heavy stuff................ Clarence's Impeller kit http://smllengns.tripod.com/ I put one of these on my 25+ year old Noma 10hp blower and the difference is amazing, like a new machine, it not only blows the wet heavy snow without plugging it will virtually blow water and it easily doubled the throwing distance, I haven't burned a belt out since the install 5 years ago. Before I found this kit I was looking to buy a new blower, it just would not deal with any amount of slush at all, I had to pack an old axe handle with me to clean the chute out every single pass. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer............Cheers, Judd

Toro 4/21. two stage . Thirty years old, never fails to start, has a 120volt starter for the really cold days.
I finally had to put some money in it, replaced the drive belt last year. Let's see the Chinese crap beat that!
Dang .... I have one of those 421's myself .... made in 1980 and still does the job

Gosh, I feel left out. I want to move north so I can have one too, but then I'd want a plow too, on an older Dodge....

I have a Honda 521 that I purchased in 1994. 5 hp single stage. Almost 17 years and works just as good as when I purchased it. After several massive snow falls last year and after an extensive research, I purchased another Honda 928 two-stage. Pricy but what a machine. Hydrostatic transmission that eliminates belts and should last forever.
