Meet in Chimney Rock ,North Carolina on saturday morning 1-1-11 @ Genny's Restaurant between 12:00 / 12:30 (est). The plan is to do the annual ride to Mt. Mitchell ( Mount Mitchell is the highest peak of the Appalachian Mountains and the highest peak in the eastern United States ) .If Mt. Mitchell is not  feasible because of weather we'll still ride the area as many know this part of North Carolina has many roads just made for the art of motorcycling. This year we plan to stay the night ( somewhere ) just hangin' out kickin' tires and tellin' lies  Wink  I'm hoping we stay somewhere around Black Mountain / Asheville / Maggie Valley for the over-night . I know several that have already commited to being on this ride and it WILL be a GO unless we have severe weather that makes it unsafe to do so....Bring It...LET'S RIDE  Smiley

Al
Found a few pictures that stick in my mind...First taken by Duffy on the ride to Black Mountain, Kentucky ( Kentucky's highest point ) we hit black ice  Shocked

Below is my Suzuki Bandit 1200 on Mt. Mitchell on one of the " Kiss My Ice Ride " this was without a doubt the coldest one I've been on . Frank Smoak and I rode back to Tennessee with ice and snow hittin' us all the way  Shocked

I think this is the picture you are talkin' about Al....Big Al , Lucky13 and Smokin'joe on Mt. Rogers the highest point in Virginia we got caught up top with night falling on us and lots of snow.In the picture Al is looking for a way off the mountain without going off the mountain ( there was'nt one  Shocked ) I rode my Suzuki Bandit off with my feet draggin' in spots just to keep it upright in the snow....What a RUSH  Smiley  A outstanding ride one I'll never forget .

I'm hoping we can go to the top of Mt. Mitchell ( weather permitting ) below is a few pictures from 2009. It was awesome weather that year in fact I was walking around with a long sleeve sweat shirt after we walked up to the summit.

If the weather is kind and I can find an open motel for New Years Eve in Chimney Rock/Lake Lure I'll meet y'all New Years Day morning.
Motel's would be much more affordable in Knoxville, Tennessee and you could make the ride with the group coming from there. I talked to Paul ( Thumper ) and he was interested in this ride and said he would contact Duffy as well about ridin' up to Knoxville. He claimed with the chemo they have him on now he'll need heated gear in order to handle the weather ( I've not heard from him in a week or so , so I don't know if he bought heated clothes or not Undecided  ). Just a thought Paul as I know you become impatient and it will be around 11:30 before everyone makes Chimney Rock....Come on up to K-Town and you can play in the I-40 Gorge on the way up with us  cooldude

They are riding up on New Years Day morning? It's nearly the same distance to Knoxville as it is to Chimney Rock.

What time are you leaving Knoxville? 9? I'd have to leave at about 6 a.m. to get there at 9. Too high a risk of roads being iced up at that time.  Shocked

Y'all can't blaim the KISS MY ICE Ride on me.  By the time I first heard of it, the ride was several years old.  Jesse Krech (6jugzz) & his friend Jerry had been running that with some of their friends and families for years.  I did use the powers of SC Rep position to try to get SC members involved.  I would hope that emailing system still works, but I've not received an email from it since I passed the torch.

Though I'd love to make this ride, and about one per month for the last year, I'm uncertain if I'll be able.  One of my two co-workers was T-boned on his Harley a few weeks ago.  Though he's recovering nicely, he's currently being paid to convalesce by the opposing insurance company.  If the opposing insurance company was paying me to convalesce, I'd make sure to soak in it til I was pickled.  If my buddy shows up at the office, I will be burning some vacation leave.

I still ride often; very often.  Though I can't brag about a 49/50 day riding average, it's pretty high.  The Valk hasn't been washed since Cheaha of 2009.

Here are a few links to some previous years of the KISS MY ICE excursions:

KMI 2009

KMI 2008

KMI 2007

KMI 2006

I do hope I'm able to shoot my own images for the 2011 KISS MY ICE Ride.  But no promises.

Joe,

If I can get enough clear roads to get out of my campground here in Northern KY I'll try and make the ride.  Got cold weather gear and Jonesing to ride the Big Red land Elephanr.  I'm off Friday 12/31/10 to 01/03/11.

Just need some clear county roads.

Wanna share a room?

All depends upon the weather. I plan on riding up to Asheville New Years Eve. All depends upon the weather.

I'm hip Paul ...This is a weather pending ride....If everyone show's up that claims they are ridin' you should have no problem with sharing the motel cost with someone. It's going to be cold you can " almost " bank on that in fact I saw on the local news last night this is the coldest Dec. on record for the Knoxville,Tennessee area....Cold I can handle however if it's cold and raining ....I'll pass  cooldude

( Wed.12-29 ) Well it's starting to look like all the anti-rain dancing I've been doing is not going to pay off for this ride.... I don't think it will be a all day wash out however we'll probably get our a$$ wet....I'm still in if anyone else is going to show-up....Those that plan on going post to this thread and let me know if you still plan to hook-up in Chimney Rock. I've been lookin' forward to this ride mainly the parking lot party at the motel saturday night hangin' out kicking tires and tellin' lies but it will take all the fun out of it if I'm the only one that show's up  Roll Eyes

I'm a maybe again. The weather forecanters have 50% chance of rain from Hattiesburg to Atlanta to Asheville. Hopefully the wind will pick up and blow it through.

My Savannah trip is off.
If it helps any the temp's will be in higher 50's saturday and more than likely wet however I don't see a all day wash out from looking at the futurecast on the local TV station website . The good news is  sunday looks beautiful for the ride home.Wimp-Big Al - Gordon and I have all said we'll ride . I've had a couple bow out in fear of getting their vagina wet but the rest of us will roll  cooldude   ....Bring It...LET'S RIDE  Smiley

As of right now the BRP is closed from Mt. Mitchell heading south.

Seem like the only access to Mt. Mitchell from the BRP is from Hwy 80 to the north.

Would this alter your meeeting point?
No it's not far we can come out Hwy 9 and hit I-40 at Old Fort cross the mountain and hit Hwy.80 <---As you well know 80 is a awesome road.....If you ride Paul be patient and give us time to get there it's a good 3 plus hours from Knoxville with rain alittle more...Also I got my fast driving award coming through the gorge so I'll be double nickel through there....ETA between 12:00 / 12:30.

The weather gods are cruel.

I'm a no.
I just talked to a fellow employee in our Asheville office and he tells me that most of the side roads (roads we would be riding) still have snow and ice on them. The ones that don't are covered with sand and salt. The Asheville area got 12 to 15 inches of snow. That coupled with a 90% chance of rain makes me a NO as well. I have no desire to get my Valk covered in that mess. There will be another day.  cooldude
