About 3 miles at a dealer I trust. It was so close, I damn near made it home, even though I left the fuel shunt "off." Was fiddling with things in the parking lot as they were doing the very last thing or two when I picked it up. Forgot to put it back to "on."

I bought mine off of eBay and had it shipped over 1700 miles. Last winter, there were no Valks for sale in the area. Now, there are several; some at very competitive prices. In fact, there is a nice, low mileage '97 Standard for $4900 listed on CL.

28 blocks away. I was watching 3 or 4 Valks on Kijiijii, and was approved at the bank. I was riding an 80 Wing, my first bike, owned it 3 years. Only one still available was a slightly worn green/silver 99 I/S, 16k miles, some minor cosmetic damage. I wasn't sure I really wanted an I/S, and it wasn't my favorite color scheme. Started her up, by the time I hit 3rd gear I knew I had to have this bike. Put 14K miles on her last season, including a 2000+ mile road trip to Ontario. I may buy another bike someday, but I will never part with Brigitt. Ever. Fred.

120 mile 'round trip. Found it by accident. Went west to the Alabama/Florida state line to pick it up and bring it home.

Not voting until you put one under 1 mile.
I was seriously looking at both coasts to pick another V65 Magna up. This Valk came up on Craigslist. Called the guy and asked for his address. Straight down the street less than one mile. The price was right.

I appreciate all of your responses, what interesting stories to read about while I search for what will be my first Valk. Guess I should have made a category for less that 20 miles or something.... go figure it is looking like I'll be between 400 and 800 miles will be mine, just have to decide between 3 color choices......

My first (97 standard) I went almost a thousand miles to retrieve [trailered home due to weather :-( ] My second ('01 IS) was about a 350 mile trip and got to ride her home The third ('00 Standard - now in tourer trim) was about 30 miles and had to come home on a trailer due to slashed (new) tires. She is a rescue Valk that came from an abusive home.

Did you look at it first? If not, how were you protected if it came with a blown engine or something? I've never understood how to do a long distance deal like that on eBay and have both the buyer and seller have some kind of protection. ???

Vehicles sell with a ebay protection plan, covering misrepresentation, title problems, etc. Ebay says it will cover it. Bought both mine off ebay, over 1500 miles one way each, no problems. MP

1st one - 2000 I/S - bought new through a broker on the 'net. It was from Los Angles, only 1400 miles away. It was shipped in.
2nd one - 1998 Tourer - picked it up in Farmington, New Mexico and rode it home 820 miles. (this was for my son's college graduation gift).

I checked the box for under 100, but... Drove 300 miles one way to look at an I/S in NJ earlier this year. It was real clean but wouldn't idle and was popping out the right side. So I passed on it. Found one 60 miles from home on CL. It is not as clean but runs good. I'll post some pics after it's cleaned up. Been too cold to work on it. Plus I'm trying to get a basement remodel done so I'll have lots of free time this summer.

Did about 230 miles round-trip to get my '01 from the Harley dealer in Orlando. I was looking to trade my '02 Night Train for something more suited for long-distance riding. Found the I/S on CL, called to make sure it was still there, then picked it up the next day.

I hadn’t ridden a bike since I was a kid, very limited riding on small bikes. I never seemed to have time, college, family, kids, etc. It seemed my Dad rode all of his life. I often thought I would buy a bike and start ridding with him one day. Last summer he sold his ’97 Wine colored Wing that was in awesome condition (he wishes he still had it). He turned 71 in August. I thought “Oh crude, I waited too long”. I asked him if he was giving up riding. He said no, a friend (Stude31) was going to help him find a Valkyrie. I had heard my Dad talk of the Valkyrie before but had no knowledge of such a bike. I got the ok from my wife and called Stude31 to ask his help in finding a small motorcycle for me to re-learn on. Stude31 convinced me to learn on a Valkyrie. A couple weeks later we drive approximately 60 miles to look at and buy a 99 I/S (~40K miles) w/trailer for my dad. Then we drove another 185 miles to look at a ’98 Tourer for me. Stude31 test rode the bike for me. I hadn’t been on a bike for 30 years and I wasn’t comfortable test riding such a big bike. I bought it. Stude31 was on the bike before I could finish asking him to ride it home for me. I took a MC Safety riding class and obtained my license. I rode the Tourer over 3K miles in 2 months. It was awesome experience. I am so thankful I bought a Valkyrie. In October I came across a ’99 I/S I had to have. It was 30 miles away and had less than 5K miles on the odometer. With Stude31’s help, I now own 2 Valks. Disclaimer: I should disclose that my wife thinks I plan to sell the Tourer in the spring. I have a few months to convince her we “need” to keep both!

I learned about Valkyries from Frank Smoak... when the bug bit, it bit hard, and I had to have a Red and White one. The one in the background was on the VRCC classifieds, just a few miles down the road. I went over, met Fritz, and rode it up and down his road, hemmed and hawed about it, and decided to keep looking for a tourer. Found the one I have on eBay, it was in Philadelphia, a bit further away ... Mine was pretty tired when I got it, but I like it now, and I'm glad to go riding with Fritz every so often... -Mike

I found mine on Ctraigslist (actually craiglook - boy I miss that site ) Long story short I drove 90 minutes to the KC airport. Flew to San Fran. caught a puddle jumper to Redding CA. Drove 2 hours to Willow Creek CA. Took a test ride for about 30 minutes. Caught some sleep. Hopped on the new to me I/S and rode her home 2098 miles. All in early May. Nothing like riding through Flagstaff AZ in the snow or waking up in Albuquerque NM and hearing the local weather guy tell me they were having record lows. Only mistake I made was not taking more time and miles to get home.
