Has anyone ever used these things for packing rainsuits, spare clothes etc, so you can get more in the hard bags? Once you vacuum them down, seems like they might be perfect for our needs.

Just wondering...

great idea,
'cept after you open 'em you got clothes that won't go back in the saddlebag Undecided
or...pack old clothes and just toss 'em after you're through with 'em.
or...find a vac at the motel (or cousin Stanley's) and re-shrink 'em back small.

Buy gallon size Zip Loc bags. Roll them to squeeze the air out. Job done.

I bought some a couple years ago I use for our rain suits. These you close and then roll the air out instead of using a vacuum. They work good.

My news paper comes in clear sleaves that I use to pack things in. Roll up jeans in slide in, no wrinkles and you can see what you have packed. Holds all tight to pack in bags.

I have used the roll kind also, I might need new ones years of adding tape to them to fix holes Smiley

Our rain gear is already small so nothing is needed. We bought some vac bags in the luggage isle at wal-mart this year. Easily reusable, its like a zip lock. We fit 14 days worth of clothes for 2 in a 27" luggage.

I have those and theyre great for long term storage. The repacking issue is the thing.
I use thrift store and laundromat on the road. I've gone on road trips and returned with a whole new wardrobe. Freaked the wife out at first but she really digs it now. The whole thrill-o-the hunt thing.

I use 1 & 2 gallon zip lock bags, just load your clothes and sit on the bag, then zip it shut!  :cooldude:Easy to repack and everything lays nice and flat.

There's a different brand (or two) that doesn't use a vacuum cleaner, but you can roll the bag tightly and force the air out of a valve.  I use these for traveling all the time.  Not only does it condense the amount of stuff, but it also protects my stuff when it rains and I've forgotten my rain cover (again).

Caution:  if using these to travel by air, it can lead you to pack a bag to "overweight" levels!

I always pack light.

Two Pairs of socks and two pairs of underwear.

All you really need for the institutional biker.

Toothbrush and toothpaste and daily meds for good health.

I always have room in my saddlebags for helping a friend who has overpackd.

Sounds like the ones you can roll up and get the air out of are the way to go. I'll have to poke around some and see if I can find the brand name and find them on the web.

Found 'em! Space Saver also makes the roll-up style:

We use them because they are heavier and more durable. They keep contents of saddlebags dry as well as our Tbag items. Various sizes are available. We use the type with a heavy duty Zip lock top.

i have used spacebags in the past, for rain gear, warmer clothes, etc.  especially for the bike cover. for whatever reason they didn't hold up very long for me.  i bought these camping bags last year and i have high hopes for them. they are soft, water proof, and roll up tight, and easy to seal. i bought a 3 pack at wally world for $10 .

I just heard about these bags the other night. My daughter uses them to trransport her clothes between college in Iowa and home here in California when on break. Has anybody used them to pack a two man tent?  Do they make them big enough? I have an REI Half Dome 2 and I was wondering if I could roll it up in a space bag and get the air out and carry it in my waterproof roll top  bag. Without the tent poles and stakes of course.

I got a back pack tent thats 7x9x4 and is really small and light weight. I think its 5" sq by 18" long all boxed. Not sure if i could get it any smaller.

Target has them in the luggage section. They work great. The roll up ones that is. A weeks clothes fit into one saddlebag.
