I came across a good deal on a Hondaline Interstate Trunk Guard Rail for my 99 Interstate, so I bought it. It came without the installation instructions. Does anyone have a copy of the installation instructions or can help with the installation of the trunk guard rail? It will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....

Jim, I got the instructions. However after reading your post on how hard they are to install, I wonder if I did the right thing in buying them. LOL. I've read other members post on the VRCC forum on how hard they are to install. Maybe someone who has an Interstate and lives in the DFW area who has installed them locally won't mind lending me a hand at a wrench party. Thanks again.

P.S. I also want to thank Disco for making this happen.       cooldude

JimL, Thanks for the typical quick and helpful response!   cooldude

Dag, Thanks for posting JimL's scanned paper to pdf to your Valkyrie Document Center!   cooldude

Victor, Any time!  But to reiterate from the emails, "I'm not sure I have the patience/diligence to do the "measure 20 times" part and I'm almost positive I don't have the nerve to do the "drill once" part."  Especially on someone else's bike!

I cut a little off both sides, as they are so tight going together.  Need to redrill the holes then at the back.

What a bunch of pansies!  Roll Eyes

Best advice - blue tape, lots of blue tape and take your time. Don't measure numerically, it leaves too much room for error. Calibrate paper to compare one side to the other. You can do this Victor! ~Jeff

A little Bondo, a little paint and you're golden!!!   Evil

Seriously, I've disasembled the trunk before and it sounds scarier than it really is.    I'd recommend just drilling one hole per side and then using that to mount, measure and verify the other drill locations before actually putting more holes into the trunk.  I don't have the trunk rails but if I ran across a deal on them, I would not be too worried about the install.  Just take your time and go in small steps so that any mistakes are correspondingly small.

This doesn't sound half as scary as putting the pod lights in and even a klutz like me could do that.

You indeed can do this, Victor.

I've got your pansies right HERE. LOL

Jeff, thanks for the tip on using the blue masking tape. I'm going to attempt this when I have the time and I read that a second pair of hands comes in handy. I will do the drilling, no problem. Might wait for a wrench party to do this.       uglystupid2

TJ, thanks for the offer. I'm not in a big hurry to get it done, but I will get it done. Let me know how your Iron Butt trip goes. When I did mine to Ocala, FL. I took I-20 East to Mississippi and then cut across the state until I got to Mobile, AL. where I picked up I-10. I stayed on I-10 until I reached I-75 and took it South until I reached Ocala, FL..  If I were you and the weather cooperates, I would cut Southeast through Texas and pickup I-10 and head to Fl. that way. Good luck on your trip if you decide to go. I really enjoyed mine. Shoot me a PM when you get back and you have some time a few months down the road and I can ride to your house to get that rail installed.         cooldude

In search of another 10 degrees, or so, that's what I did.  I-20 to Canton where I picked up 64 to Tyler, then 69 (great ride if it weren't so bleepin' cold) down to Beaumont.  I-10 from there.

I have been working on my route and have 2 picked out. It looks like by Thursday temperatures are climbing again. looking good  cooldude
1st fastest and and potentially the coldest is I20- to Shreveport than take I49 South to I10 into Florida.
2nd shortest(it's like 25 miles less) warmer (will take longer) less Interstate: Dublin-Waco-Conroe-Beaumont-I10 to Florida

Walt, I got'em from a guy at work that has an Interstate and he told me that he won it on an auction on E-bay about 8-10 months ago. It was still in the bubble wrap and looked new. He didn't have the installation instructions and I asked him if they were Hondaline or after market? He said he didn't know but I suspect that they are a copy of the Honda Interstate trunk guard rail. They look good, I just hope they fit good. I paid him $50.00 for the Interstate trunk guard rail. I priced the Honda Interstate trunk guard rail at over $300.00.       Undecided

SixGuns and Houdini, thanks a bunch.  I knew about the one on ebay.  I tried to see if I could do a local pickup and he said nope.  Crap.  the shipping is $35 alone.  I'm gonna try to bid on time and it seems he has a few in stock.  Iguess we'll find out soon.  Be safe and keep warm
