same thing happened to me a few years ago. Remove side covers & radiator overflow tank. With a long screw driver from under right side of frame with a good light to see from left side. and alot of patience you should be able to push cable back to unlock.
I replaced my latch system with new after my episode. Good Luck.

That was what I had figured out from looking at it. However I wanted to get someone who had done it to advise on it. Thanks. I will take off the water bottle.

You may want to shim up the latch. I have the corbin seat (tight fit) and had the same problem til shimmed.

I see you're in COLD country. Could it have frozen? I've had that problem with cars with door lock iced over and shot a little graphite or WD 40 and it worked. Just a thought.

The latch is if anything too loose. The cable is not flipping the latch, cold gummy whatever. Tried spraying it, no go. After I get it a part I will see what can be done to prevent.

The cable streches, mine started screwing up and I did not fix it. The next thing I know I was pulled over by a freindly officer and could not get my registration and Ins. Card out. I keep them in a plastic bag next to the tool kit. He let me go but kept me on the side of the road for about 30 minutes. I replaced the cable and it was fine for another 5 years, once it screwed up again I made my own system and threw away the cable. I put a long electrical tie through the latch, locked it into a circle and it comes out on top of the front cover where the seat key goes. You can't see it but now I reach down and give her a gentle tug and she pops up easily. It has been that way for 5-6 years no problem.

Thanks for the info. Got the seat off with little problem. Got the battery out -more of a problem, PO had added several wires. It is going to be a PIA to reinstall. I could not get the front plate off, seems to be attached at the bottom somehow? Hoser, The idea of having to use the key annoys me anyway. I will be doing something to eliminate that and avoid the cable strech problem as well. Since it worked fine before I think that it was my fault for putting too much pressure on the cable. It was REALLY cold and the key would not turn all of the way until I forced it. I had started 2 weeks ago to move it into the shop and at first the throttle cable was frozen. Took about 5 minutes at idle to free up. I also think the start and idle is what caused the battery to get so low on charge.
Thanks again.
