Got a question for all ya'll valk guru's. Last weekend I filled the gas tank about 30 miles from home and headed that way. When I got home I parked the valk in the carport as usual and shut the petcock off.
A few days later I started smelling a faint oder if gas around the bike. There are no signes of gas leaking on the floor or anywhere on the bike itself. Just wanting to know what to look for if possible hudrolocked or other possible causes of the smell.
                                            TIA,

Hey,

There have been reports in the past of a faint gas smell. You may just be smelling it and not necissaily hydrolocked.

I would try and start it......

If you want to assume you are hydrolocked, then pull the plugs and clear it.

Could be the gas cap is leaking the smell. Some have done something with the cap to stop it. Can't remember just what, but search the general and tech boards for gas cap and will likely find the fix. Some Valks had a recall on the gas caps for that very thing. Also, How warm was the weather? Could be some gas out the overflow from the heat. If you just bump the starter button, you should be able to tell if hydrolock has happened. The best way to be sure about hydrolock is to pull the plugs like RDKILL said. Hope this helps cooldude

put the bike in third gear and rock it back and forth,,,if the engine is hydrolocked it wont turn over,,,if you use the starter it could cause damage cause the starter is very powerfull///

Just a warning - - Beware the Honda petcock!

I always turn it off but after removing the tank to replace the air filter, I noticed gas dripping out of the petcock.  Thinking that I had not completely shut it off, I tweaked slightly up then down and it still leaked.  Fortunately, my float needles didn't leak or I would have been in trouble.  I now have a Pingel petcock.
