It could be that i am just freaking out and being overtly paranoid... (I have a history of such things where my bike is concerned.)

But today I noticed the carbs making... well... "sucking" sounds.  It could be normal and I have just managed to quiet the engine noise to the point where I am beginning to notice it. (new belts, re-set valves) The bike still seems to be running just fine... it's just that at idle I can actually HEAR the carbs working.

Is this normal or am I just be a goofy derp noobie!

Check the clamps from the carbs to the intake chrome manifold  tubes. The lower six you can get to easily. The upper six you can get to by removing the cover pieces. Tighten them. You may be sucking in some air and that's what your hearing.

If you've done the desomg one of the small caps that replaced the hoses could have come off the back of the carb.

Get an arms length of garden hose to use as a stethoscope.

That will make it very easy to isolate the sound!

Use a spray bottle with water.
While it is running spray the water in and around the carbs.
if you have a vacme leak some where it will suck in the water and you will be able to hear the pitch of the motor change.  If that is the case then you have found your leak.

Thanks guys... good suggestions all.  But it turned out to be that vacuum hose coming off the back of the intake of cylinder 3.  It had gotten crimped and burned through...

I'm gonna have to replace all the rubber as soon as I get back from Big Bend Wednesday...
