Check out these folks. They have a kit to make lights light in a sequential form (like the old t-bird). I think it would make for some neat lighting.

LED? I have purchased various LED's. Can I just hook the LED's up to 12 volts and all will be fine or do I need to find out something more on what I purchased. I already have some LED's on the bike from the previous owner, but have no idea how they are installed. Thank you in advance for any advice that anyone can give. I am electronically challenged.  Cheesy

LEDs have to have a resistor connected to limit the current through the LED to about 20 milliamps.

20 mA is a typical current for standard LED's.  The new power LED's can be 100 times that and more!  Custom made LED modules for emergency vehicles can be as high as 5 amps for each LED!

I was looking at some Luxeon super brite LED's the other day.  Forward voltage was around 3.2 (don't remember the color) but they were rated for 350 mA.  The brightness was in the 20-30 lumens range.  The standard 5mm (20 mA) LEDs we've been using were considered very bright at 10,000 millicandelas, which equates to about half a lumen at a 15° beam width.  I'm going to have to get some of those to play with.

Excellent info here people. I was looking for info on this and quite a few questions were answered here, except the first one. I too have the stacks and since seeing the bike on you tube have been wanting to add led's in them. But I want to try to fire them using an inductive sensor off the plug wires. It was mentioned earlier but not really answered. Is there a way to do it? And, if so, would it require components that would be too large (controller) to hide? I've seen inductive plug wire testers about the size of a pen - but they have a double ended bulb inside a clear housing within the body (replaceable it seems). Not sure though how it's powered. Possibly a AAA battery? I was wondering if this could be taken apart and modified for use with an led, then I'm thinking taped to the plug wire at the coil end? These testers run about $7 - $8. Would obviously require 6.

So - the thread's been dead for over a month. How'd ya'll make out with your mods? Anymore pics, comments, etc?

Thanks for the info thus far.

The inductive plug tester that I have is simply a glass ampule (tube) filled with neon gas. The glass tube has a metal contact on each end. The high voltage from the ignition causes the neon gas to ionize and conduct current to the plug. While the neon gas is ionized it glows. There is no circuit, switch or energy source other than the high voltage for the spark plug itself. This technology doesn't lend itself to switching or powering an LED circuit.

Hey RP#62 , how involved is it to make a controller box like you describe ? or can I buy a box similar to yours on line to do the same thing ?

No, what you REALLY want is one of his custom, hand made throttle locks.   cooldude  I never did talk him into making me one.

Sorry on the delay, just found my cam  Smiley  Here is the requested picture of the filters I used that I clamped right to the carb covers.  They are 54 mm base, not the 52mm I said before.
