A former Sergeant, having served his time with the Marine Corps, took a new job as a school teacher, but just before the school year started he injured his back.
He was required to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body. Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn't noticeable.
On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school.
The smart aleck punks, having already heard the new teacher was a former Marine, were leery of him and decided to see how tough he really was, before trying any pranks.
Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, the new teacher opened the window wide and sat down at his desk.
When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he picked up a stapler and promptly stapled the tie to his chest.
Dead silence... He had no trouble with discipline that year.

Growing up in rural FL (many moons ago), the punishment for misbehavior in schools was a firm "paddling" in the hallway or outside the classroom. Many of the "teachers", and I use that word loosely, had their own special instruments for punishment made with holes drilled through the blade. Some seemed to particularly enjoy delivering the discipline. Being a guy who "challenged authority" from a young age I received more than my share of this. As i became more "experienced" I would sometimes pad my pants with newspapers, etc in anticipation of certain classrooms. Since my mom worked with the school system, my parents knew of the incidents by the time I got home and were supportive of the corporal punishment. Looking back, i don't think the beatings were effective at all in changing my behavior. I can still remember a funny episode when one of the "older farmboys" (held back a few years in school) was getting paddled outside the window in the schoolyard. The class was standing by the windows looking out when the boy took the paddle from the young teacher and chased him around the schoolyard until help came from other teachers.

That looks exactly like the paddle my 7th grade science teacher use to beat my ass with. It would cost him his job today.

My stepfather was a principal and former head coach. So we had one of those paddles at home, too. Got lifted off the floor a few times with those swats. As both my mom and stepfather worked for the schools, any infraction at school where I got paddled resulted in a follow up reminder later on at home.
I don't think it did much to make me behave better - but it did affect the relationship I had with my stepfather. He enjoyed doling out the punishment just a bit too much.
I'm not in favor of such punishment because it seems to be more designed to relieve the frustration of the punisher more than teaching any lessons to the punishee.
But getting back to the original topic of the post, the story was great!!

I got swatted and shook a couple times I had it coming, and believe it was not excessive and a good behavioral tool, in moderation to age. IMHO tempered corporal punishment is a necessary tool to young human behavior modification .
Our gym/bio teacher in HS was a big man and a bully. About every 30 days he would pick out some guy to punish, sometimes deserved and sometimes not. I did not like him and he knew it, but I never gave him sass or reason to swing away. In gym, he had the paddle like in the pic. One day he picked me out for no reason I could discern. "You get the paddle" "No, I will not be paddled" "You certainly will" "No, I did nothing, and if you lay a hand on me, I will leave school immediately and go to the police station and swear out an assault complaint." (Yeah, I was already headed to law school in HS)
He wanted to wade in in the worst way, and was blood red, but knew I had done nothing, and knew I'd go to the cops, so he threw me out of gym class. Told the principle that Bagnell was at it again, and he better get a handle on that guy. He knew the man was a loose cannon (thou a great Varsity BB coach). So I sat in the office for two days, and then back to gym class. A simmering truce existed for the rest of the semester.
This same guy was my drivers ed teacher. Parallel parking was his excuse for more abuse. When you didn't get it right, he slugged you in the arm. The second time he slugged me, I jammed the '67 chevy into park and bounced his head off the windshield good.
I have always been willing to accept deserved punishment, but cannot abide a bully.

This post reminded me of an incident between my father and I when I was about 13yrs. old. When the paddle came out ( and I was quite used to what was comming. ) Stiffened up and assumed the position and let him whale away with out a flinch or twitch and after a while gave him a great big smile and said , " let me know when you are done. " He dropped the paddle walked into the house and said to my mom, " I just can't seem to get through to that boy. " ......... Then I knew I had won, there was no more paddlings for that kid after that.

Had one too. It was called the "Golden Blade". Painted as such and applyed liberally. He had another one that he mushed the finger tips with. I got that one one sunny day, and I asked if I could see it. The dummy actually handed it to me. I put it right across the back of his hand and layed it wide open, quite by happenstance and mistake. Turns out the corner was the impact point and broke 3 metacarpals. My dad taught in the district and was informed straight away. I went back to school and had a different science teacher and warm praises from Dad. "Dont hit my kid, I'll do it." was his philosophy. And better too, count on that!
