Hello, I was wondering if the tachometer can be rebuilt on this bike. I have ordered a new one, it does not look like you can get into the internal workings without breaking the case. Just asking for future reference. Thanks Rick.

Just curious...what's wrong with it?

I replaced it, with a new OEM tachometer at the cost of $150. The old tach was a  little sluggish I would sometimes have to tap on it to get it going, This is on a 2001 Standard with only about 5k miles on it.  I was ridding about  week ago and the tach went all the way around and got on the other side of the zero needle, I was not revving about lets say 4 grand when this occurred, I took the tach off and noticed that unlike my old Bmw R100/7 there was no easy way to take the workings out of the plastic cover. Thats my story and I am sticken to it. Rick

Yeah, if it was sluggish, replacing it would be the way to go...

You can get the needle back around with a magnet if that was all that was wrong...lots of folks with magnetic tank bags have tossed it up there while fueliing and then thought the tach was shot because the needle was all the way around. (magnet did it, and can fix it).
