Taps will be the last song before my ashes are scattered, but prior to that I'd like the mourners (if any) to hear My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys by Willie Nelson, Brothers in Arms, by Dire Straits, and By The Mark by Gillian Welch.

I'd like the musical notes from the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".
(Actually it is the beginning notes of "When You Wish Upon A Star")

And just to piss off a few relatives, the Rolling Stones tune:"Smypathy For the Devil".

What a wonderful world was played at my Fathers funeral, and I would love to have it played at mine.

Being EX- Military I've always figured that TAPS would be appropriate.

Today for some reason I thought about this song and realized just how appropriate that it might be:

Jesus And Mamapowered by Aeva

Jesus and Momma Always Loved Me - Confederate Railroad

Conferedrate Railroad is a great bunch of guys, they dropped into a bar that I used to hang out in one time............... Just let me say that those guys can............. Party.

My Dad used to really ride one of his brothers about always driving Cadillacs, For Dad a car was a means of transportation and nothing else............

At his funeral as the hearse was leaving the funeral home for the cemetary this song popped into my head and I just had to crack a little smile:

Dont want a funeral. I told my wife to throw one hell of a Wake. I want everyone to have a grand time. Celebrate my life. My troubles are gone. Save the money she would spend on a big funeral and take a vacation and spread my ashes around the places I was happiest. Mt Evans is one of those places.

Exactly .... thats what Judy and I have always said.  Since my first wife died I have thought how unecessary the additional pain of a traditional funeral is.  The memorial service was fantastic, cleansing even....healing.... then the funeral was just pain.......forget it, party, spread me somewhere on the water or keep me on a shelf, I wont be caring much at that point.  As far as the music......Jimmy Buffet  cooldude

I told my kids Garth Brooks The Dance and another fitting song that i will have to look up. I think its called the @sshole song. It goes something like He was born an @sshole and will probably die an @sshole and all his friends are @ssholes.  Shocked

Anybody else out there ever wondered about "What Song You Would Want Played At Your Funeral?"

I stopped playing funerals several years ago.

Part of my standard set:
Chi Mi Na Morbheanna (Mist Covered Mountains)
The first eight bars or so of Pink Floyd's "On the Turning Away" .
This comes across really well on the pipes.
Dark Island

It is a Scottish tradition to be piped home or piped across.
I also do not wish for a funeral.
I would rather have an Irish wake.  cooldude
(the only difference between an Irish wake and a Irish wedding is there is one less person at the wake)
I hosted an Irish wake for my brother.  It was great. He would have loved it.
(I am Irish on the maternal side)

Always liked the organ prelude and tune as used in "The Big Chill" by The Stones  - "You Can't Always Get Whae You Want".  Kinda appropriate as far as a will is concerned and perhaps life in general....  Cheesy

Will be buried in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

So the last song will probably be TAPS.

Other than that, there will be no funeral, wake or anything else.

Told her if she defied me, I'm set up and say what the f**k all you people doing here, who sent you an invitation?  Now, get lost......

Well, CRAP, RJ!   I was looking forward to hearing "Loving You" by Minnie Riperton.  LOL  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

No funeral or wake?  Aw h@ll with the funeral, but at least have a party afterwards!

I'm kinda like RJ.  I'll be buried in Biloxi National Cemetary, hopefully no time soon, so the last song will be taps followed by the sounds of motorcycle engines leaving when the commitment service is done.
