I removed my OEM windshield to polish the hard-to-reach front parts of the bike. The windshield attaches to brackets with two bolts on each side. The bottom bolt just gets screwed in. The top bolt fits in a slip-on slot for ease of removal. Does anyone know how much to tighten the top bolt?

I just use my "wrist torque wrench" with the common sense extension.  cooldude

If I'm not mistaken, the top bolts are the ones that have the stop collar and the rubber washer.  The reason for that way of mounting (IMO) is so that the windshield can tip forward in the event of a frontal collision (preventing the WS from acting like a guillotine)...  Tighten them snug, and the collar will prevent it being tightened too much.

Somewhere between "snug" and "tight".

Tighten them untill they strip....then back off a quarter turn.

Just kidding......I don't know, but my windshield comes and goes all the time and I've never torqued the bolts......just snugged 'em up good so the windshield won't move.

Thanks for the replies, everybody. Spent 6 hours washing and polishing my bike last night.
