I am in the final stage of getting my 99 Interstate put back together and I have misplaced the keys.  Can someone out there help me to find the information I need to have a new key made?  I am told there is a code on the back of the ignition, pulled mine off and can't seem to find it.  If I can get the code there is a Honda shop in Albuquerque that can make me a key and send it to me.  I live in Seattle and all the Honda shops here just want to order a blank and send me on my way.

Thanks in advance, Mike.

The place we all lose our key from time to time is in the seat lock (underneath);  is it there?

Misplaced, rather than lost..... but the same result.   crazy2

If not, if you have key code, call a local lock and key outfit and ask, they should be able to make one (three actually).

Find a good locksmith locally and have him cut ya one.

Otherwise I think ya have to take the title and etc to the dealer to have it cut.

The key code is on the original key, I'm not aware of anywhere on the bike that has the code written down. Only likely way is to take a lock to a good lock smith and have him make one.

As for the dealer, I know with the registration on my CAR I can get a new one cut at the dealer. Maybe they can do the same for a MC, or at least get you the code, then you can get one from the lock smith. My local smith is able to make from the key code. $16 for one.

If you pull lock set out of the hardbag or trunk a good locksmith can cut you a key.

Also check the steering lock. Once you figure out the 3 digit code (hopefully after finding your key) write it down somewhere. I have mine in a notepad on the PC and written down in my wallet.

The different key slots on the bike use different parts of the key to lock or unlock. so if you get a key made from say the gas cap, the key may not work in all of the other cylinders. If you look on your ignition switch there will be a code behind the chrome cover that you can take to the dealer and they can cut you a new key. The code generally has 2 letters and 2 numbers. This will get you the correct key for the bike. DO not ask me how I found this out. I will tell you it was about 300 miles from home, lucky for me only about 2 miles from a Honda dealer.

If you can PM me, I'll tell you how to find the key code. I also think this was discussed before on this board. Do a search.
