hello everyone.Getting ready to go darkside with the general altmax and noticed that tirerack offers this tire in both 92H and 92V ratings.Which should be used? 205 60 16 for me.Thanks

That's up to you v-man.  The V rated tire has heavier construction and weighs about 1/4 lb more.  When I was looking for my first DarkSide tire I was advised to get H or V rated.  Either one would make a fine choice.

The wear rating on a car tire that is going to be used on a MC is also very important. I believe it ranges approx. between 100 and 800. The closer to 800 you get the harder compound of rubber. While the harder rubber will give you longer wear, it will not grab the pavement near as well as the lower number rated tire. I would suggest not going much higher than 400. That will give you acceptable wear (much more than a MC tire) and will give you pretty good "grab" on the pavement. I run a Nexen 205-60-16 tire wear-rated at 420 and like its handling characteristics very much. Good luck with your choice.

I am running the h-rated altimax and it is fine.  But I did find that I had to bump up the pressures closer to 40-42psi whereas others with car tires are running 32-35...some even lower than that.

Well, between the H and V rated tires???
I can tell you that the H rated tires will not be as stable at higher speeds 85 plus if you run less than 38 psi. The softer sidewall construction leans itself to wobble.
The next CT I put on the rear will be a V rated tire. The V rated tire has a stiffer sidewall. The belts run higher up into the sidewall and provides for less sidewall flex, meaning greater stability at higher speeds.
If you don't plan to go over 75mph...go for the H rating.
If you plan on going 80 plus mph...go for the V rating.

I've been triple digits with my H rated Toyo Proxes TPT without a problem.  No wobbles whatsoever.  I think a lot to do with that may be the type of tire you run.  The Toyo  is a high perfomance touring tire which is built heavier than just an H rated passenger car tire.

Have that very tire on my i/s( h rated) with 44 P S I and have had it-a couple of times-to a buck forty indicated. Both tires have dyna beads in them. Still here talkin at ya and the valk is smooth at any speed you can afford. Front is the metzler 880. For me it works just fine thank you very much. Hope this helps. RIDE SAFE.

Thats a good point as I have the GYTT H rating. Others have also reported a wobble upon getting close to 90-100 mph. The increase psi helped considerably, but if I went to 44 psi, it would wear out in the center. Your point on the type of tire, I think is valid as to the construction of the tire. My next tire will have the "V" rating, or maybe the tire you both have mentioned. I also run the Metzler 880, I'm just fine with it. I now have over 15,000 miles on it. I run it at at 34-36 psi, but I also static balanced it myself of which I believe also atributes to its long life span.

Both my H rated GATTs are rock steady at any speed up to 110 or so (and progressive springs and 440s with good bushings).  One at 28K, the other at 5K.  I prefer to spend my days dragging boards in the twisties than on the slab, and I will stay with H rated softer sidewalls.

I'd go with the "V".  I'd hate to see you have to change your name to "H-man1."

Really, I doubt you would know any difference.
