Garth Books sang
I'm much too young to feel this damn old.
Rode west from Franklin West Virginia Sunday morning . Getting close to Buckhannon I was struggling with my vision deteriorating and getting blurred as if there was vaseline smeared on my eyes.
No I hadn't imbibed too much Saturday evening. In fact I was abed just after 9p.m.
Riding along I couldn't read a vehicle license plate if it was at a safe distance ahead of me nor could I discern the difference between gravel on the road or discolored tarmacadam. A vehicle driver at a side road had an indiscernible face and braking for what I thought were deer was in fact sunlight on a tree trunk.
I made a command decision and changed course southerly heading homeward.
Sunday night I stopped in Dublin, VA and today continued on arriving home just after 6 pm.
2 days of stressful riding. Not being in total control on a bike is distressing.
I have a doctors appointment Wednesday morning and have to get a referral to an eye doctor.

Sorry to hear this Paul. Got your message you left on my phone and hope for the best. Sure would of liked to have seen you but you sure did the right thing by turning around to go home and get things checked out. I hope you get a quick diagnosis and an easy fix!

Very sorry to hear this Paul (I was thinking about that long ride as you left the motel Sun morning).
How is your blood sugar, and make sure they check for retinopathy. This can come on very quickly and be irreversible. (not to be alarmist, just sayin) Ophthalmologist, not optometrist.

Keep us posted on your situation. Guess as we get older certain parts of the warranty don't apply no more. I'm supposed to wear my hearing aids. They work but sound tinny to me. Oh well-heard to dang much=maybe time to miss some of what some folks gotta say. Hope for your sake that it is some thing easily treatable. Prayers for ya that all will be well. RIDE SAFE.

Sorry to hear that also Paul. I sure do know that, in my case, ALL parts of your warrantee run out after 75 or so.
I've been putting off getting my cataracts removed. My hearing aids also sound tinny and drive me nuts. My knees are only suitable to support a motorcycle of some 500 pounds. etc, etc, etc.
I sincerely hope that your eyesight isn't a severe problem and can be diagnosed and corrected by an ophthamologist. Some medications can cause the blurriness in eyes, especiailly narcotic type of pain pills.

I agree. High blood sugar can affect your vision like that. Definitely see an opthamologist. Marty

I have a form of conjunctivitis. I've been given some prescription eye drops and cream. I'm told these should clear up the problem in a few days

Good to hear that the problem is solvable!! I know that the old rule,"if something just doesn't feel right, put the helmet back on the shelf! Ride another day!" is a smart one!

BUT
Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plansI can relate. West Virginia is my other home state, my Mother's side of the family is from there, and I'm there regularly. But I was stuck at home with the fibromyalgebra (I made that word up ) last weekend... -Mike

You should have listened when they told you playing with it would effect your vision. Eyes are tricky, sensitive parts. . . good luck with the drops and cream.

That's really good news Paul. I know you're pissed about cancelling your ride and I understand. But being married to an ophthalmic assistant, I was anxious to get to the diagnosis. It could have been so much worse. Will you be able to do the ride later ?

I hate it that your ride got ruined but that's really good news concerning your eyes.
And, we all know how many times while riding if we had been one second ahead of where we were life would have changed drastically for us. Call it luck, call it the "voice", call it what you will but when the ride turns sour and you still ride it home then you've won and you get to ride another day.
