Something to look at that I don't think anyone has mentioned is idle speed. You mentioned that she would just die out when idling, low idle speed will do that. Might foul out your plugs and make her hard to start too. When the motor is warm she should idle at 900-1000 rpm. On some older bikes there was a mark on the tach where the idle should be set. Our 500 rpm mark looks somewhat like that but she won't run if it's set there.

Also, if it keeps acting up try running a can or two of "sea foam" carb cleaner through her. Use half a can per tank of gas.

When you stated the engine didn't want to start with the start button, but, started fine when 'jump' started led me to think the start switch was dirty and needed cleaning[common problem].. Since you now state the start switch works fine and the engine spins fine when the button is pushed,, the start appears to fine and operating properly.. If the engine spins properly and only starts upon starter button release then there is a draw/voltage drop somewhere.. This could still be caused by a low/bad battery, but, there probably is a poor electrical connection somewhere.. These engines should start easily in warm weather..
