My son -20- recently passed the MSF class .. did really well. He really wanted a Ninja, so starting conservative, we agree on a 250. I spend the last couple of weeks checking ebay - nothing. Craigslist - there is a ton of them. But every time I started to work on one, It would sell before I could get to it.
We have a quality reseller of used bikes - mostly metrics, WOW (World on Wheels) In Marietta GA. They move lots of bikes and have a great shop. In fact, I bought my Sabre there 4 years ago.
They had several 250s. We did the deal, went and had lunch and sauntered back to WOW and she was ready; The pulled, cleaned, synced the carbs, changes the oil and filter, replaced the fork seals.. and changed a seal on the petcock.. WOW rocks.
Since Brady has no road experience I ride her home. 180 highway miles.. man-0-manischewitz, I AM TIRED, my butt is sore, but that's ok. Brady loves Ninjette and I am glad. He is going to be a good rider.

What year model is the Ninja? I've got an '07 and I love it. Tell your son to check out ninja250.org if he hasn't already done so.

Not to try and spend all your money for you but, what about the new Honda CBR250R(?), I have heard from 3 people they like it better overall more than the Ninja and all 3 of them either have one or have owned the Ninja. yes they now either own or have test driven the Honda. just a thought.

Ninjetta is an '06 with < 5000 miles. Its did well on the highway, sustanined 70-80 mph and 58.5 MPG !!!
to Formano.. try and tell that to a 20 year old... uh no. had t be a ninja, plus the fact that we by used bikes and I am not sure they had the Honda 250. he is very happy and feeling the freedom of the open road,

Living just 2 hrs away from WOW, I made a couple of visits over there.....they seem to always have some Valks, but back around 2003, they were mighty proud of their bikes and the ones I looked at, weren't the in the prime condition to be worthy of that pride.....but it could have just been that my timing was off a little..... I ended up making a list of bikes from Cycle Trader and listed the +'s and -"s of each one and ended up riding up to TN to purchase the Big Green Dragon from a nice guy who'd taken good care of the old girl....she had ~29,100ish miles on her when I rode her home in August of 2004.....just over 85,000 now....and I love her just as much as the day I bought her.....

My "stepson" had one as his first bike. A really good choice. Big enough motor to be safe and a small enough motor to be fairly safe. His would run with his buddy's 650's at riding speeds. It just did not have the acceleration that they had. Handled really well and was light enough for a new rider to handle. Also got great gas mileage compared to the rocket bikes.

Hey Stanley.. I am just down 441 in Dublin.
WOW .. moves a lot of bikes that they do have some that are a little rough.. they do a good job getting them ready in all areas except tires and body/paint.. engine stuff is the focus. and they will work with you on price.. they cut 10% off of Ninjette.

They do seem to sell a lot of bikes and I'm glad they are willing to work with folks....I've passed by there about 5-6 times in the last year after having eaten at a place at Cobb Galleria.....maybe I'll stop in again next time to see what they've got..... My Wife's Grandparents used to live in St. Simons, so I've driven through Dublin many times on the way down there.....y'all got any good BBQ places I could try out sometime?.....

The nice thing about your son's new-to-him Ninja250 is he will probably get most of his investment out of it in a year or so when he trades up to the Hayabusa... I mean, Ninja650!
