Here's another black/silver only about 200 miles away from Champaign.  That's a normal lunch ride.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-HONDA-VALKYRIE-TOURER-Black-Silver-Low-Miles-/110708582224?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item19c6bee750

This has the hard bags - worth mucho dinero.  It doesn't have as much chrome, though.  I'd take the hard bags over chrome any day.

Anyone know who is selling this one?

Nice find, Rain.  But I sure like the headlights on that Ft. Worth bike.  And the price is in the same ballpark.

I spoke w/ the FW dealer this morning and he's going to put me in touch with the original owner of the bike.

I'm thinking you are pretty much set on this bike in Fort Worth.  The price is fine with you, you have a report on it and it is a Valkyrie, so that means it will run forever.  You are comfortable with the seller. Once you clear up the engine issue, I think you will have found your Fat Lady.

We are all happy to help and have our opinions, but, in the end (as I said before) it is your decision.  If you are happy with this one, go for it!

And an early welcome to the madness.

Ya... mebbe set, Rain.  Will be interesting to chat with the former owner.

This bike looks nice, but it's like pulling teeth to get an M license or even a "learners permit" in VA, so it's out of the question for me:

All you need is a uhaul trailer to pick it up.  Or better yet, go on the main board and find another Valk owner to take a look at it and you might just find someone willing to ride it to your place.

Purple and white is pretty rare - Scott in OK had one and it always was a favorite color of mine.

I'd also need a hitch, which I don't have.  And since my car is already in IL, I'd have to put the hitch on my wife's car.  Which would give her a bit of say in this whole motorcycle deal, which I will NOT do.  This is going to be my little (private) slice of heaven.

Having someone ride it out there potentially opens up all SORTS of nasty cans of worms.  What if they crash?  What if they don't crash and the bike gets damaged somehow?  What if they get to Champaign and just keep on going!??!?  Wink

I really do like those colors, though.

My understanding is that yes, if the bike is bought from a dealer, I can.  VA seems to be really strange in this regard.

Man, I should just keep my mouth shut   Roll Eyes

StretchPhoto, just curious....have you been shopping Valk's for a while?  I know that once you see the one you fall in love with, it's hard to slow down from buying it.  Ft Worth is a long way away...the price is probably fair enough considering the milage and the addons (love the color) along with the shipping.

But I do feel compelled to chime in.  SixGuns and Cowboy - man, they have incredibly gorgeous bikes, and have spent a lot of intimate time working on them.  SixGuns, Cowboy and Mark all agree that it looks like the engine has been off the bike.  One of the two previous owners possibly removed the engine for some reason, and started blacking out the engine (but did not finish) with a paint brush.  I LOVE MY BIKE, and if I started a project like blacking out the engine I would totally finish it!  It may be of no concern at all, but it makes me go Hmmmmm...

I bought my 2001 Standard - illusion blue with white stripe - about 1.5 years ago (and Valks are just cream-of-the-crop bikes IMHO).  Mine had 18,000 miles, lots of nice upgrades, incredibly clean, no leaks or rust anywhere, and I paid around 7k.  (Doesn't have that cool lightbar, but those cost about a $250-$275)

So let me ask a question:
SixGuns or Cowboy . . .  If you were itchin' to buy a Valkyrie today, would you buy this one for $7,000?

Unless I could get in touch with the 2 previous owners and get a little history on the bike, I would not. Even at that price, I would not. You have to remember that last year I bought a 99 Interstate for 3K. It needed some work but I couldn't pass it up for that price. Later on this year it will get a new paint job. There are deals out there to be had if you take your time. I would ask on the National Board for some help in finding you a nice valkyrie. I'm sure you will get a lot of responses. Maybe even find one close to where you will be moving. Just my 2 cents. Good luck in whatever decision you make.     Smiley

Also check out http://www.allofcraigs.com/ and search Valkyrie.

On the National Board, post that you would like to "talk Valkyrie" with someone near Champaign (that is where you are moving?)  There is a family of Valk owners up there, I am sure....check out a wrench party.  If you look for a couple of weeks, the perfect bike will fall in your lap...and it may be right next door.

Sounds like you really do not have the time to really look for a Valkyrie. I was really excited to get my second Valkyrie and made myself pass up a few just to make sure that i found the perfect Valkyrie for ME.
Now that you have found our boards and are getting tons of info from all the great people that LOVE this bike, sit back, relax and get your move finished, keep up with all the info your are getting and PASS on this bike you are looking at. Once the move is complete then search for Valkyries in your area. Maybe find a wrench party you can go to and learn about the bike you are wanting so bad. Find a bike that you can go see for yourself ( now that you have learned about them ) and touch.
Once you get the bug for a Valkyrie it is hard to not go buy one, I understand that but do not rush into buying a bike that you have not seen or touched. There are a lot of Valkyrie owners out there that are looking to sell the bike they have now with more custom parts and a lot cheaper than the one you are looking at right now.
Just DON"T RUSH into buying a bike!
With all that said. I can not blame you for wanting to buy that Valkyrie!
just my 2 cents$$

This was posted to the General Board by FLAVALK.  The I/S here is a '99 model and appears to have a CB and saddlebag rails as well as a trunk rack and a newer, wider windshield (not OEM).  Might want to see if any of the Orlando members would take a look-see.  It's $7K but also says "best offer".  So offer less.

No problem.  I currently have a Tourer and an Interstate in my garage ready to ride.  But I ride the Interstate.  Bigger gas tank, better electronics, etc.  I can read the speedometer during the day.  The radio is nice but the CB is a must for group rides.  And the extra lighting (I/S has 2 headlights plus I have the pod lights) really illuminate the road better than the Tourer's one head light plus driving lights.

But any Valk is better than no Valk.  The one Victor linked you to - I think I've seen that one before, maybe on the Genreal Board.  It does look good.

What do you mean about the speedometer?

I've actually e-mailed the owner of this bike four times, with no response.  Strange and unfortunate, because it's super close to me, I love the paint, and the price seems right:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1997-Honda-Valkyrie-First-Year-Goldwing-Engine-/110707474209?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item19c6adff21#ht_500wt_1182

Tourer speedos are difficult to read for me - bad contrast between the numbers and the dial at dusk and sometimes in the day.  You have to have the bike on to see what I mean. And it may just be me - you'll have to see one yourself.  The I/S speedo is much easier to read, IMHO.

Stretch, you could buy an I/S and go with a Supervalk mod on it.  You have the larger tank, CB, if it came with it, stereo, intercom AM/FM radio, ect.  Take the trunk off and relocate the antennas and presto, the best of both worlds.  And just in case you need some extra storage space, put the trunk back on.  Just a suggestion.  I have an I/S and have considered going that way, but I like having the extra lockable storage space.   Give it some thought, go with what turns your head.
