The no burglars at this house post reminded me of this.

A buddy I had who ran a security agency 30 some years ago had a male black bear. And they were buds. The bear was huge and would ride in the front seat of his car with him. Sometimes I would walk into the break-room at the plant we both worked at and the bear would be laying on his back on the floor eating a candy bar. The bear was far taller than me when he stood on his back legs.

It was an old brick plant and we had a "yard" as it was called with many forgotten pallets of bricks, tall weeds and blackberry vines growing there.

My bud would sometimes turn the bear loose to eat the blackberrys and had done so on this particular day. A trucker who had just pulled up to the dock walked out into the yard to relieve himself. As he was doing so the bear stood up and looked over the stacked pallets of bricks that were between them to see what the noise was.

The truckers legs got pretty wet as he ran screaming back to the plant. Grin And he didn't appear too amused by all the laughter since several of us were watching as he walked out there to see what would happen. Evil

Another buddy I had back then had a full grown male African lion. He would sometimes turn it loose in their shop at night as a greeting to any would-be burglars. I asked him one day how dangerous the lion was, it was on a log chain 20 yards from us at the time. It had truck tires to play with and would toss them into the air sometimes. Shocked

He said it was just a big cat and walked over into it's area and started rubbing it behind the ears. It rolled over on it's back and he started rubbing it's belly. I thought WTH and walked over to rub it's belly too. As I leaned over my buds back to do so the lion opened it's eyes, (which looked to be 10" apart) and roared loud enough to wake the dead.

I heard the log chain twang like a guitar string when it snapped taunt as I was running away. Whew!!! My bud said it wouldn't have killed me but would have only stood on top of me. (which might have killed me, it was big) He said it just didn't like me being that close to him. That was scary crap.

I like your statement there.

That is exactly what our current leader reminds me of.

Glad the Lion did not get to stand on you. If that would be his only action.

Do you know anything about the man who uttered it? You might want to do some research before declaring yourself of like mind. Just a thought.  cooldude

Because you miss the point of the quote entirely. Which to me, is hysterically funny.

One doesn’t need to memorize an authors biography in order to agree with or enjoy something they have said. And of course, we all tend to interpret what we hear and read in the context of our own lives and experiences, rather than in the context of the life of the author.

And, although I did indeed read a short biography of Albert Camus before I decided to use the quote, I liked it both in terms of his work in opposing the Nazis as a member of the French Resistance and in the terms of my own beliefs in individual liberty, and living our lives as free as possible from the ministrations of an over reaching government.

I would imagine this is exactly why Al also liked the quote.

I am curious, had you for some reason already memorized this man’s biography or did you just look it up in case it could supply you with a way to attack Al?

I ride and generally like most other riders for many reasons. Among them is a love of freedom. That genuine childlike sense of wonder most of us feel as we cran our necks to see what is around the next corner or over the next hill.

And a lack of pettiness.

You don't really need to "memorize a man's biography" to know a few important things about him. I saw the name and it rang a bell. A very ironic sounding bell. I also do not fear knowledge. I respect it and seek it.

Only idiots fear knowledge. I try hard not engage in personal attacks on people. In particular, not online. Nor do I appreciate it when someones uses something I've said or quoted to attack someone else.

What I said was not an attack, personal or otherwise. Really, none of you people have seen what amounts to an "attack" from me.

I've seen you use the phrase, "you people", multiple times now here on the message board.  Exactly who are "you people"?

Is it everyone on the board besides you and your alter ego's?  Or is it a handful of people you seem intent on arguing with?
