Hated the Hardley-Stumblehome, Loved Indians.

He put 190,000 miles on a 1939 Indian 4 like the one in the video.

He bought it new, used Chevy Valve Springs, drilled the crank for better oil flow, and added an oil cooler.

He also is in the AMA Hall of Fame.

Won many off road and speed records and still rode into his 90's.

Truly a gifted and solid motorcycle enthusiast to say the least.

Southern California loved him, and he put on a Death Valley Run every winter.

Hated Harleys.

Damn, that brings back memories.     That is the exact same bike I learned to ride in the pasture.

I hounded my dad for a few years to let me ride it.    Finally in front of his brother and dad, he said IF, I could get it started, I could ride it.    Just before he went to war in WWII, I got his brother to start it for me.     The rest is history.

I wore a groove in the pasture about 3' from the fence in our big pasture at grandpa's farm.     Rain or shine, I rode that old girl.....      Dad would carry a 5 gallon can of gas out of a morning with me, fill the tank, start it and I was on my own till about 5:00 PM, just in time to get home and help do chores.    After Dad was drafted into the Marine Corps, his brother hauled me out to the farm.

Would love to have that old girl now.     Dad never put in Chevy valve springs but him and grandpa did some major work on the oil valley's in the crank and engine.   Something he had learned from Pappy in Sturgis, SD, the inventor of the Sturgis Rally.

RIP Dad....
